Microsoft Ditching Backwards Compatibility?

Maybe so but that not what some other report in this thread suggested. :)

Unfortunately thats the problem with poor journalism. The more accurate headline "Microsoft focusing less on BC" would just not sell so well.

I dont get it tbh, instead of making these games backward compatible...why not just re-code them to work on the 360 ie re-release them again.
Some of the games dont seem to play very well anyways ie halo2 from what my bro was telling me isnt that great on the 360...much better on his original xbox.

Personally i just wish they would release a decent cricket game on the 360, something like Brian Lara international cricket thats available for the ps2 and xbox.

But then you would have to buy the game again.

I doubt many people would care so much about backwards compatibility if they had to pay for it. But as Microsoft made a claim to making as many xbox games compatible with the 360, then they should carry it though.

Good to see they get worried by fans, should keep them on their toes if they decide to fall short on other promises.

The biggest problem with that is it would mean the developers having to go back to the source code, QA retesting the game from scratch and a total of several months being spent all for a game that has probably been and gone.

if that was the case there would be no backwards compatability, the ps3 will be in the same boat anyway

Sony have all the rights to PS One and PS 2 games and the hardware, so I dont believe they will be

I understand bc is hardwired into PS3 for the previous two models

not true, google search and you'll find your answer

PlayStation 3 not 100 percent backward compatible

I believe he is correct, but so are you. It will have PS1 and 2 hardware built in (hence no need to emulate) but there is a chance some games may still be incompatible. The difference between this and the xbox 360 is that it's fair to expect the vast majority of PS1/2 games to work on the PS3 out of the box, but since the 360 has to emulate each games has be tested and tweaked individually (I'm guessing the console isn't powerful enough to make a fully featured, completely compatible emulator).

Well it basically means that MS have kindof screwed up the whole hardware in terms of backward compatibility.. Had they thaught and planned it properly from the start the 360 could easily have fun xbox 1 games.. and not "emulated" them at all.

I was basically a last minute thaught that was nice.. but over all not worth it.

Doest really bother me in the slightest as i never had the original xbox as it is...like i said if they re-coded brian lara cricket for the 360...id definitely get that for sure.
