Microsoft Edge - Possible Chrome and FF killer

I know that, I mean in terms of getting people to want to use the beta version. I understand locking the features down, but as the search engine used is most peoples first point of call when browsing, locking them to using just Bing will mean a lot of people like me won't bother.

I'll have to wait until its properly released before I give it a proper test.

Ive been trying to use this as my main browser on W10 but the fact its currently locked to Bing keeps driving me to Chrome. I think thats a mistake by MS as I imagine I'm not the only one not using it because of this.

You can see in the settings this won't be the case on release.

Edit - should have read above post first.

It's a way to get people to try bing.

All its done is reinforce my previous opinion, that Bing is pants :p

On what Ive seen Edge seems fine. But it won't be supported by the software I work with for a while so I doubt I'll use it much even after its released.

So now Edge is officially out I've been giving it a go, but already I've run into some issues:
1) Importing my Chrome bookmarks places them in reserve order.
2) I can't seem to reorder folders on the favourites bar, I keep accidently moving a folder into another folder.

Dark mode on the other hand looks amazing. Hoping they will add extension support soon, I miss my ad block.

Is there a noscript/adblock extension for Edge? I only finished installing Win10 this morning so have not even looked at anything yet. Otherwise I'll just stick to Chrome for now.

Using the Edge browser on my sons PC, I upgraded it for him to W10 from W8, I found that it could import favourites from Chrome.
For me I find that it doesn't recognise FF as being installed on my Windows 10 fresh install and so I can't import them that way.
I did give feedback in the Preview builds about the FF issue as well as folder etc sorting on the favourites bar.

I will be fully moving to Edge once they implement add-on support and in particular once LastPass bring their add-on out for it. It feels so quick, fresh and I like change when it comes to software.

I read that they're making it so Firefox/Chrome add-ons, with some small modifications can be used in Edge.

It finally has basic features like an audio icon on tabs with sound playing, and 'Reopen closed tab' when right clicking on a tab.

As far as I remember, they always had that, you just had to use the Ctrl+Shift+T shortcut (same shortcut in Chrome & Firefox).

I miss full-screen mode and swipe to go back/forward from Metro IE. Edge just doesn't seem quite as touch friendly as what came before.

It's certainly faster performance (significantly so on some website) wise on my HP Stream, but I dislike the fact that bookmarks have to be named, I've gotten so used to just having individual favourite icons with no names attached on my favourites bar in chrome that I'm struggling without the ability lol. Need to do some re-arranging to suit.

I miss these too, seems faster but sometimes takes a while to get choose a text box to type into. E.g ebay is bad for it on my tablet, page loads but takes another 5 seconds to be able to manipulate the search box.

I will be sticking with Chrome.

Google is the biggest player in the 'Internet' space. They have the best HTML5 support out of all the browsers. They own so many of the services we use. Plus they are also involved on the server side components of the web (SPDY protocol and other stuff) so I don't see my self moving to a rival browser anytime soon.

The only browser I could go back to is Firefox if they sort them selves out.

The Wife hates Edge, it doesn't support the AIM website (I didn't know that was still going). Came home to her sulking about it! Changed her default back to Chrome (annoyed that it changed it automatically) and now she's happy.

edge of the toilet bowl

its so dumbed down and crap.. from the context menu that doesn't even appear instantly.. and when it does its just some oversized font with the most ****** basic of options from cut copy paste and undo.. in bold with granny sized fat padding.. its pretty garbage

and if you download anything all you get is a time and %.. no dl speed no total filesize..

can't wait to download loads of crappy automatic updates of this junk

i'm guessing the win10 interface and programs were all designed for tasteless simpletons who don't like options or useful features.. the perfect customers who will happily provide lots of useful data for ms and creepy partners to use.

Moved back to Chrome. While it performs really well Edge feels unfinished.

Yeah, went back to FF for the extensions I use every day. I also found Edge wouldn't open daughter windows when needed. I think they've stripped it back a little too far, going from the bloat of IE 11 to the not enough functionality of Edge.

I think it's got potential, it just needs more development. I don't see being light and fast as an advantage when you're running modern hardware, fast internet pipe, large numbers of simultaneous connections, etc. Functionality is more important to me than being quarter of a second faster to load a page, (but getting it wrong).
