Getting announced now, I know there's not a lot of love for the Surface here but damn they are knocking this out the park.

More details soon.

Pro -899 dollars

Still quite expensive :(

Already been given the Ok to pre-order one here at work, the Pro I have now will be given to the tech under me the same as the RT I had was, he loves me since I started working here, he's had a new PC, payrise, RT and in a month or so a Pro

All I really wanted from the Pro2 was more RAM and more storage, I'll be going for one of the 8gb RAM versions, the jump in price between the 256 and 512Gb versions though is a bit steep so I'll probably get the poverty spec 256Gb version lol.

I'm also getting the dock as I'll be giving the Lenovo USB3 dock away with the Pro.
Just need to decide which keyboard to get...

These things are tempting, would be nice to have HD 5000 graphics under the bonnet like the MBA though.

I'm tempted by the £360 version. Is the Tegra 4 performance OK or is it beat by the new Snapdragon 800 etc.

What sort of software can you install on the pro versions???
Does it have to be from the store or can you download software onto it, like steam for football manager etc etc, shark007 codecs? Xbmc?

Anything, its an i5 haswell, so will handle pretty much anything.
Its full windows, so same as desktop or laptop can install what you want.

Tegra 4 is slightly faster than 800 on processing, 800 is slightly faster than tegra4 at graphics processing. So pretty much even

What do you want to install on it, I've got Diablo3 and Steam installed on mine as well as some actual work stuff.
Its essentially a windows 8.1 ultrabook but in the form factor of a tablet.

I'm not sure how may more times I need to try to get people to coin the ultratab name lol

Well im just curious about the thing, would it run football manager 13 for example? also of i installed a codec pack would i be able to stream mkv files with dts audio?
What are the limitations as far as gaming goes on these things?

Dont know what the requirements are for FM13, the Pro that I have now though doesnt quite have the poke of the Pro 2, if you can find out the requirements for the game then that'd be a good place to start.

Codec, I used the Shark007 pack in the past but yesterday just put the new version of VLC on it and that seems to run fine.

Limitations for gaming, well bare in mind its not really designed as a gaming rig so anything that requires more umpt than the on die HD will give you is a no go, personally I was impressed it runs Diablo3..

There are no limitations with win8 its exactly the same win8 as your desktop. Install what ever you want, do what ever you want.

As for gaming the limitation will be the gpu which is the hd4400, which should be fine for running most games at low settings.
If you want it for gaming as a priority, best waiting for reviews. But its a fair bit more powerful than the original surface pro, and plenty of youtube videos of many games being played. I haveno idea what fm13 requires though.

Tegra 4 is about 20% slower at GPU scores over Snapdragon. It seems like a bad time to bring out Surface 2 RT. The new generation of mobile GPU are all starting to hit so why bring out a surface 2 RT with what is effectively an old generation GPU? Tablets and mobiles are all moving towards ES3.0 and GP compute which is going leave Surface 2 RT even further behind.

Tegra 4 GPU is already slower than the newest phones so I am not really sure why MS went with it. More so considering it has poor energy efficiency and high heat output. Saying that it should be fine for movies and web use.

I think the RT 3, if they do one should be Atom based, that'll help with the WP8/RT/Win8 divide if the RT device is x86...

Does the surface 2 come with a keyboard or do you have to buy it separately? I really can't figure it out from the pre-order website.

What are you on about, you are utterly wrong.

snapdragon 800 is the fastest snapdragon. No new ones on the horizon.
Most of the benchmarks I've seen Tegra 4 is faster than 800 for processing, but slightly slower gpu, not 20% though, not even close.

The tegra4 is actually surprisingly good and in fact on these benchmark is actually better than 800 in most areas,

My wife has an original RT which we got dirt cheap from the John Lewis discount shelf, and it is lovely. The quality is fantastic, and she really loves it.

Seperate, thats another reason I've only gone 8/256, by the time you add the keyboard and dock its bloody expensive, almost Apple'esq

I had the RT and it sold me on the Pro before they'd even been released.

No I am not utterly wrong in fact your link just proved me right if anything. That’s the shield with an active fan and heat sync which is faster than the tablet Tegra 4 which has to run without a fan. The shield with all those advantages is slower in 3dmark and in the GPU tests that matter 1fps and 4fps faster than Snapdragon. Now what do you think will happen once we look at the tablet Tegra 4 chip that is slower than Shield versions of the chip? There is no way that shield version of Tegra will run in a tablet or phone.

Also are those onscreen results on or off-screen as if onscreen they are next to useless as comparison.

tegra4 is not surprising good. Its slower for worse battery drain and more heat. Its by far one of the worst current SoC for performance against energy efficacy.
