**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

I see they are not offering to replace the power cord for the docking station even though it looks identical to the normal PSU one. Is this just because they think it's going to get abused less?

The cables look identical and are interchangeable so one could use the docking station cable with the charger. It would then be affected.

Only if it's actually identical, which it is unlikely to be as it's not being recalled, most power cords look extremely similar, how are you going to tell what cabble it actually has inside it.

I don't think I've ever used an original power cable from MS. I have quite a few of the USA ones.

Also the dock ones are stupidly short so they get replaced from day one.

Hi all.

My surface pro 4 with i7, 16gb and 512gb has developed a serious fault where it cant charge anymore.

i have the standard charger cable and the official MS dock and noticed both dont charge my surface pro anymore.

the light indicator on the charging port doesnt light up anymore either ?

Time to send the surface pro back to MS? what are they like in terms of Custmer service? Has anyone had to return a faulty surface pro before?

Yes, quite a quick service but not an advance service so you might be without for a few days.

Im tempted to get rid of my rmbp and move to the sp4, had a little play and love it. totally removes the need for my macbook which i run a lot more stuff virtually anyway and wouldnt need to use the ipad.

any good deals on at the moment on the SP4?

Odd you should mention that as I'm trying to decide whether to get a retina macbook 12" or a surface pro 4? I was actually edging towards the Mac as I think I'd use it as a laptop more than a tablet!

I'm honestly using my SP4 more as a laptop than a tablet, but due to the weight it feels much nicer to use and doesn't burn my legs :p. If you want something more laptopy however the Surface Book will probably suit you better. The SP series should be compared to the MB/MBA, while the SB should be compared to the MBP. The final decision should be if you prefer Windows or OSX.

As for replacing a tablet, there's still not that many good apps on the Windows store, and some desktop programs simply aren't that touch friendly. You can install an Android emulator however, currently using AMIDuOS which also has access to the Play store and runs Android apps pretty well.

I got the 15" Rbmp but it's not had much use on OSX, I've mostly used my work laptop or virtual machine, and find it too big to whip out (no pun), I was thinking the sp4 would replace the iPad as well
