Microsoft Surface RT Priced

Those price points EXACTLY match the three for the iPad (without 3G).

Compared to the iPad:

£399 - an extra 16GB "free"
£479 - a "free" cover
£529 - a "free" cover

So it is very competitive for a 10" tablet since nobody else has been able to even come close to Apple in terms of price.

I just think the entire tablet space is going to focus around 7" though when Apple joins in.

7" is to small, I would be shocked if 7" outsells 10"

And 7" is not going to compete in the corporate sector.

But of course it would be nice if we had far more choice. That will come in feb/march where non launch partners are expected to launch their tablets.

Are you for real? The 32GB iPad is £479 without a case and keyboard.

Apple have always have the premium status, since when did Microsoft?
And Apple products don't have a Tegra 3, I'd take their SOC over a Tegra 3, that's why I'd rather take a hit on 16GB of NAND, get the 400 quid one over a surface, and I don't even like Apple products.

I think the price will seem much fairer once the platform matures more and so more applications will be available. I wouldn't like to be an early adopter but would certainly consider one in the future.

Also, full USB, so use whatever Mouse Keyboard combo you like.

And mSD expandable memory.

Do people just purposely forget these things when looking at prices?

The thing is though that a 10" tablet at £399 is still pretty pointless for most people. For roughly that price you'd be able to get a decent 15" Laptop (as I just did) that has way, way more functionality and purpose.

A 7" tablet at £199 is perfect. Most people will use them for music/video/web/books and £199 is an acceptable price for an additional device. Just watch. I expect the iPad mini to do to tablets as the iPod mini did to MP3 players (in other words move it from everyone knowing about it to everyone actually using one).

Can get an Acer W5 Windows 7 tablet with keyboard for 330, can throw full fat Windows 8 on it.

It lacks the design of surface, but it's 150 quid cheaper.

Or as Fillado says, a laptop.

The US covers were like 110 dollars and 130 dollars, why are we paying 100 pound and 110 pound? That's far more than their conversion and VAT.

A laptop is the wrong form factor though, people do not wanta laptop, they want a pick up and play device. That's a tablet.

However you are right on the price front, a lot of people's choice is purly down to price as can be seen in this very thread. So you may well be right.

Although being apple, it'll be more like £279

If a 10" tablet at £399 is pointless for most people, how do you explain the success of the iPad?

While 7" makes for a very nice device I'm not seeing the world being conquered by the ones that are already available.

Don't forget you can get 7.57% Topcashback for Hardware at MS store, so on the £479 32GB that's an extra £36 off.

I really know I shouldn't but I'm thinking of preordering one...

Has to be cyan.

I love the cyan and the red, I'm going to be picking up a Lumia 920 when my current contract ends so I might try and match the colour of the keyboard to the colour of the Nokia, sad I know! That being said, I think I may wait and see what the Apple announcement throws up, I'm really interested in buying a tablet and if the iPad refresh is announced I'll have to make a choice.

I bottled it when it came to getting my Lumia 800 and went black. After seeing my mrs swap the back on her Lumia 710 for cyan I've vowed never to play it safe again.
