Its called marketing. Its clearly worked, your all talking about it's Magnesium case.

When would you ever need to skateboard on your tablet?
The point is; if it's strong enough to support somebody skateboarding with it, then it's strong enough to survive a fall from the sofa/bed/cupboard/whatever.
Sorry but they're completely different forms of strength. Just because it can hold a load, doesn't mean that it will survive a drop, at all, they're just not comparable scenarios.
I guess the RT will work with 3g dongles, not very neat but a workaround I suppose.
Pricing is slightly disappointing, was definitely hoping for something closer to nexus 7 price. I know it's bigger, but still, it's not as premium.
iPhones and most mac products are overpriced in terms of hardware, (and typing this on my iPad, I really don't mind that). So when competitor products come out, I feel like they shouldn't pitch so close to apple. Hence why I was really hoping a base surface would be in the £200-300 bracket...

Is this going to be a proper "PC" as such? I.e. will it be able to play games (not necessarily graphics intensive games) but DirectX games nonetheless?
Or is this Windows RT akin to something like Windows CE back in the day?

Yes thats what I thought....
Metro apps is the new MS appstore?
And presumably one would not be able to install their copy of, say Office 2010 on this since it needs the "RT" version so to speak?
Hmm... I want to get this just for the "try it out" factor. But I think a proper X86 version is coming out 3 months after this no?
Yes, it is. It will also cost £800+.
It's targeted to replace mid-range ultrabooks, while providing all features a tablet would.
Given that it runs full fledged x86 hardware and not ARM though I imagine the battery life will take a hit... heat output too... compared to the RT version anyway. This is just speculation on my part of course.
Have a dedicated GFX card in the dock, like the current Sony Z series.
Although the Post PC era will be for the vast majority of people, there will still be a few people that need/want desktops around. For example those that do CAD and other high end processing work. You'll still need workstations (and a few people may want super duper gaming machines), the standard desktop PC however may well go the way of the Dodo.
So very tempted by the RT. The resolution is questionable (why no 1080p - assuming performance issues) but it's a stunning device and may be worth getting to see if I can cope with/will actually use a windows tablet over my MBA. I currently have a touchpad with Android on it but rarely use it.
