Well side by side many people are saying the screen looks better than the ipad3 due to other features. It's not all down to dpi. There's a blog on it on Microsoft site. Still public only look at resolution/dpi so a bit of a fail in marketing terms.

I don't think that's strictly true. Most people have no idea about resolution or DPI, they just know the branding. Apple have been clever and made people think that Retina is the best resolution, even though 'Retina' is just a marketing buzz word and isn't a standard or specification of screen at all.
I guarantee that if you walked down the street and asked people which is the better 10" screen, a 4000x3000 resolution, or a Retina display, out of the people who actually know what you are talking about, most would say Retina.
Every time I'm around a discussion about Apple products and how they compare to other rivals you always hear someone say "But the <insert Apple product> has a Retina screen". Most people have no idea what Retina means, they have just been convinced it means its the best.

It's very true that there's many things which control how good a display is, otherwise we'd all be using high resolution TN panels.
As far as I recall the main advantages of the Surface screen are its contrast and the bonding process, no idea if that makes it superior to a high dpi display (I'd assume not as crispness can be very obvious while a small difference in contrast can be hard to notice unless you can compare directly) but I won't know until I have one in hand. If not for the 3 week delay I'd have probably pulled the trigger on a Surface now.
I really wish the Surface RT could somehow let you install really old games like 2d point and clicks or Worms or others that would I'm sure run just fine on the RT's specs. I'd buy it in an instant and would have endless fun playing these games on the tablet and hooked up to the TV. So torn between getting a Surface RT now or waiting for the Windows 8 full version tablets to come out so I could install my old games.

edit: can I ask who delivered it and what does is say on http://commerce.microsoft.com on transactions.
It lists my cover status as settled but my surface still as pending.

I doubt it, its a different architecture, but I would have thought there's certainly a high chance of emulators becoming available like ScummVM
Ordered on 22nd, still not heard a peep
I ordered a 32GB without the touch cover, I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Also got my Windows 8 discs, you get 32 and 64 bit discs in the box. The RT is really good, everyone in the office responded with that it is better than any android tablet they have ever seen. It requires 800MB of updates straight away, so stand by for that. The keyboard is excellent, i can already type fast on it.

So I can play fallout 2, FTL and other such games when I'm in the hotel, like I am ATM.
I know what you mean!!!!! I have a terrible feeling like I'm missing out on the fun
Its also annoying in that at the end of Nov I'm going to the USA, so will be even more tempted to get something randomly, just because of the saving.
On my to-do list is develop a few applications for Windows 8, and I could just grab my company credit card any buy one today, but I just wish the Surface was x86.
It it was the same price but had the Atom, it would be perfect.

Same here, don't really like the other tablets which are out atm, they are so limited.
Windows pro tablet will be awesome, will be able to do so much.
