Microsoft to buy Mojang?

In a normal rational world this all actually makes a lot of sense when you read the reasons.

However, this is the internet and people will no doubt rage.

You get an insight into what it must be like with the fast rise to fame Notch has had.

I'm guessing my 7 year old son will have a very long wait for the ps vita version now. As in it won't happen at all.

Have you even read the information posted above? The Vita version is still coming out, and all versions of MC will be supported going forwards.

TBH I hadn't yet. I'm somewhat surprised MS haven't taken the opportunity to stunt MC on Sony platforms.

Ah I see it says:
There’s no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions of Minecraft to stop. Of course, Microsoft can’t make decisions for other companies or predict the choices that they might make in the future.

I'm not sure there was a great reason for it's interminable delay on the vita either, and this reads very much like a politician's promise.

After splashing out $2.5bn, they need to recoup their investment. Taking it off Sony/Apple hardware would be hugely counter-productive at this early stage.

Waste of money anyway just spend $2.5b subsidising their fading XB1 platform instead would have been a better spend. Or my favorite would be spend $2.5b on PC gaming by porting with love the big MS franchises over but enhance for PC not just 1:1 port.

MS prove time & time again they are directionless & do not have a strategy other than pay more than anyone else to get content

By the time they recoup (if they ever do their $2.5b) Sony will have their PS5 out ;)

I think you are probably under-estimating how much money Minecraft will pull in for them.

$100 million a year it would still take a while to recoup their losses.

Tbh I think this was a stupid decision by Microsoft.
Yes minecraft is selling like hotcakes but so did angry birds and crazy frog and any number of fads of the month.
If they were getting the original developers then it would make more sense but they aren't coming with the deal so in the end its going the studio is going to end up a former shell of itself just like rare did and lucusarts

So basically Notch just wants to sit in a shed made of dollar bills and tinker with qwerky web apps?

Each to their own I guess, at least he'll be able to make a big shed.

Microsoft will most likely gain a bigger percentage of the gaming market by buying Minecraft, this alone for them is probably worth spending 2.5billion.

Also Minecraft merchandise is just about to explode

They'll do 2.5 billion in merchandise alone

You can get minecraft everything from bee covers to Lego sets my 3 kids are daft on it and have been for a while now

Way less than $2.5b MS are in serious trouble at the very top if they think this was a good deal  giving away XBox Live Gold for free would have had a far greater impact on XB1 sales ;)
