Now attach a mobile phone with tethering support to it as well, so it should allow the microwave to use 3G signals instead

It's there to absorb excess EM waves, but it looks like he's using the wrong type of bread. White bread doesn't help!

I find a cylinder of brown bagels with tin foil in the middle (from the router to the PC card) works best.

In seriousness, put a mobile phone in there (don't switch the microwave on) and the signal strength should disappear. IF your oven is causing enough interferance to knock out the internet temporarily, either there is a serious overloading on the electrical circuit or its emitting enough radiation to do damage and should be slung out.
