Mid range and low voltage Skylake release?

Ah, for some reason I thought the announcement was also meant to be the availability date. Thanks for posting that link. So just under 2 weeks more to wait.

I think I'll be going with the i5-6600T in a fanless Streacom case.

And something else I've heard today: It seems that Intel are not replacing the i5-5675C with a Skylake part. So only moble will get the 72eu GT3/4e IGP and they'll be BGA.

Theres places in the uk that have had some of these in stock and for sale for over a week now, none of the major etailers do yet tho

There were a (very few) early listings on [major etailer name retracted] for parts such as the i5-6500 / similar (non-K i5s). But seemed to be coming from Germany actually.

Also the price of those things wasn't particularly stellar.

In fact [name retracted] seem to have a better stock now of all the i5-6400, 6500, 6600 (non-K). And the prices are so similar that anybody would be a fool not to buy the i5-6600K instead.

Sorry I totally forgot about the forum rule r.e. mentioning competitors. I'll go back and remove it from the other post too.

Indeed, the Intel Core i5-6400 is listed/in stock at £156(2.7ghz base 3.3ghz turbo) the place i know and their pricing is always competitive.Thats very expensive,i paid only £4 more for my 4670k 18months ago

There will be desktop Skylake parts with Iris Pro (128, 256MB eDRAM).

Yeah I was assuming that much myself also. Yet my source today was anandtech who in the article seemed to have had a recent specific and direct contact with Intel reps and in a specific context, as referenced in their most recent Broadwell article. You can go check for yourself the wording there.

There were some engineering samples of the T models on a well known auction site a few days ago but that was a bulk lot and not much of a discount so I wasn't going to bite, I can wait another couple of weeks.

Actually reading other reports a few of the Skylake mobile parts might be socketed. e.g. mobile Xeons or something like that. It's worth a re-check probably I guess.

Turns out that I'm incapable of waiting and have decided to just go all out with a gaming HTPC build instead of a fanless one.

i5-6600K, 16GB DDR4, GTX 980 Ti in a Streacom F12C case. I might do a build log if anyone is interested.

I decided the i5-6600K vs the i7-6700K is a compromise I can live with for a ~£130 saving and lower temps.

I think the i5-6600K has the same TDP as the i7-6700K which is 91W according to Intel Ark, but I guess it will have a generally lower thermal profile due to the i5 not having hyperthreading.

All the reviews show the i5 has a 75 watt TDP. Wheras the i7 is something around the 90-105 watt mark.

For some reason Intel wants to say they're the same TDP as each other (the i5 and the i7)... it's probably just to make the i7 look better than it actually is and likely no other reason. Marketing BS in other words.

Fair enough, it makes sense that the real world TDP of the i5-6600K will be lower due to the lack of hyperthreading and slightly lower clock.
