Middle click on bbc website

In news stories etc.. particularly the football gossip page, why doesn't middle click (e.g open link in new tab) work?

Whether using Chromium browser or FF middle click always opens the link within the same window, when on the BBC site.

Wow guess the browsers should advertise it more

This has been known since I first started using Firefox.

To answer your question op it could be that the links aren't actually real links but javascript links which when you click on perform the command to open the link the website's way.

Gotta be honest didn't know either - I've always used ctrl+mouse1 on a link to open a new tab.

I'm specifically talking about the links here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/gossip/

But i've found it in other places on the BBC site too. Drives me nuts, as i usually click a link while reading a story then go to the new tab once finished.

Doesn't work for me in Chromium 17 or FF 12 in linux - a middle click just opens the link in the same window your viewing. Grrr.

Maybe it's certain addons? Try it in firefox safe mode then you'd know if it was firefox or an addon.
