Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Thanks, tried different usb slots and the xbone pad is wired and 360 pad is wireless.

Fingers crossed it seemed to work ok after installing a program called x360ce. Not sure what it does exactly but played for a few hours last night and it didnt happen.

Enjoying it a lot so far, has similar feel to mad max which i also enjoyed. Finding it quite hard at the moment as I'll be fighting a captain and suddenly two more will turn up.

Yep - it can be punishing. If you're onto the second map then you might have a new ability that helps when dealing with troublesome opponents, but I don't want to say too much for fear of spoilers :D

You'll come to really love/loathe some of the captains from your personal copy. The Nemesis system really makes the game great.

One has beaten me like 3-4 times now, can't wait to finally find him on his own :D. Its a really cool feature and works even better with there being no manual saves, so you cant reload if you get beaten.

How the hell do I defeat this guy when hes never near any fire? Hes the guy that has killed me loads of times and is a body guard for one of the war chiefs I am supposed to take out.

Oh man, that's a nightmare set of talents.

I'd try and set him up in a duel with another warlord, see if you can get someone to do your dirty work for you. Otherwise, run away a lot and try to kite him near fire.

From a reddit thread about a similar issue:

"First, you need to get the ignite perk. Its first tier, so if your low level killing a couple grunts and some chump captain should get you the necessary exp. Next, you'll need to plan your fight. Bring it to him this time. If he's in a fortress great, just stalk him a bit till he walks by a barrel then blow him up. It won't kill him, but he'll panic and run. Ignore everything else and chase him. When you get close, grab him, then start shanking him. Or you could just use him as a Orc shield while his grunts attack you, it won't matter if he's got combat master if other orcs attack him. If he's not in a fortress and just on patrol, it might be worthwhile to let him kill you a few more times so he becomes a bodyguard or war chief."

Crickey, good luck! lol!

Thanks, I'll keep trying to get him near fire as I have the ignite perk. I guess i could just kill the warchief and avoid the bodyguard, but I wanted to get the achievement for taking out the bodyguards first.

Speaking of the ignite perk, its Awesome! I went into a stronghold and had like 3 captains and loads of orcs running after me and managed to take most of them out with a campfire. Ended up dying to a caragor that appeared when I was chasing down the last captain :(.

Managed to finally kill him after luring him near some explosive barrels .

Just completed the first map and mopping up some of the weapon and slave missions if i can be bothered to do them all as they are a little repetitive.

I 'want' to play this game, and I did start a few months back, but I struggle to get over the combat mechanic just being a complete copy of batman. It is just so repetitive. Put me off.

I will play it one day, just I have to get over that part of it.

As you progress and unlock more utility belt gadgets special skills, it becomes more involving and complex, but it's very much the game you make of it. It's literally playable with the monitor off, if you take the path of least resistance, so unless you are able to get on board with the "I'm going to do this the cool way" aspect it can be underwhelming.

Well I'm loving it so far. Best £3.60 I have spent in a long while. It is repetitive, just as Batmans combat was, but I feel like the Nemesis system helps to keep things interesting. It creates an element of planning and tactics needed in order to take down certain captains and punishes you when you get it wrong by then increasing the level of the victor. I'm finding the combat in this a lot more fun than Batman as a result.

Also after getting to the second map things become even more interesting with even more ways of going about the battles.

The story and characters are a little dull and I really haven't paid that much attention to what has been going on. The gfx are also a little copy and pastey and a little lacklustre. It could be because I have just taken a break from playing the witcher 3 which excels in both these areas, but this game trumps it in the combat and has more interesting levelling system.

All in all well worth playing for a bit until you get bored of the repetitive combat. If you just plough through the main missions and ignore all the repetitive side quests that's probably the best way of going about it to ensure the combat remains fun till the end. I've done a fair few of the side quests, but they are getting tiresome now so have left the rest.
