Middle eastern art

It takes years of dedication and work to get to that level. It's pure jealously that these modern artists are creative, productive and notorious and the home critics are not.

Marla Olmstead must be light years in front then?
and makes this person look amateur
and if you say is right my chav photo will go down a storm then.

Your opinion, indeed. I see merit and fault in both.

would you find art depicting damaged buildings in Gaza where children died offensive?

because im betting many people would

When you see any image you make multiple choices in a second. One of those choices is whether to be offended or not, and that choice is composed of the opinions of your peer group, the media and what you think you're expected to think.

If I found some art depicting damaged buildings in Gaza where children died I'd find it interesting that someone has chosen to depict that in an art form. I'd query their motivation and transmission. I'd query their background and its effects. I may or may not agree with what they've done but I won't get offended since to get offended is to take something personally. In the future, you could try questioning the reasons for your own reactions rather than instantly snubbing an artist.

Why would art depicting that be offensive?

We have plenty of videogames and movies and music depicting violence and war. Why would it be a crime to depict such a thing in art?

you studying philosophy/psychology or something ? ;)

i just think some things are in bad taste and i dont think i should have to question why i feel a certain way.

Looks as **** as pretty much all 'art' that I've seen in the past few years - only Banksy sometimes adds some humour to some of his art, still wouldn't pay for it though.

To me, art takes skill. Art is something that I cannot do myself, such as an incredibly detailed, lifelike watercolour or oil painting. Or a structure, carefully designed etc.

Most of that stuff I could knock together in a wet weekend with some Pritt-Stick, same with Damien Hirst and Tracy Emin etc.

The artists you mentiion conceived their art - can you?

In my opinion, most Modern Art is ********. Splotchy messes that look like they could (and occasionally have) been drawn by 2 year olds mean nothing to me.
People will see in it whatever they want to see, a simple shape that might be just that in one persons eyes might evoke feeling and memory in someone elses. It's all subjective and that IMO doesn't involve any skill on behalf of the "artist". I don't think it is clever, I simply think that people with far too much time and money fawn over such things as they have nothing else to do.
