Middlesbrough worst place to live in the uk?

It's poppycock, statistics do not a town make.

I think it lost last time to do with the pollution and an apparent smell from a river or something.
I was up there last month visiting a friend who coincidentally also posts here, and tbh I didn't notice any of this.

I am about 30 miles away and I have to say Middlesbrough isn't the most salubrious of places I have been. It is a large industrial town dominated by the chemical industry.

Good night out though I hear.

yeah cause they have the highest binge drinking in the uk :D

Boro is terrible, full of chavs, full of wasters, full of chimneys from ICI. Such an eye sore.

Once place I WILL NOT be looking to buy a house, even though I could buy one with the change I have in my pocket.

so wrong

its not the best place ever but it certainly isnt 'the worst' . its a small industrial town with a few bad areas like everywhere has. the outskirts surrounding areas are great places

jeff above sums it up great and hes not even from the place

As above. It's not the worst place but it's far from the best. There is a lot of development going on at the moment, Middlehaven for example which should boost the reputation for the town and also create a lot of jobs in the area.

Also when TV programs show that Middlesbrough is a 'cesspit' they'll show the steelworks which is in Redcar, not Middlesbrough. Funny how they don't want to mention that.

Anyway, it's alright.

Agreed.

Boro is fine tbh, it's mainly Southbank and Grangetown that let it down (badly!)
this

and most of southbank isnt even classed as middlesbrough anymore!

the bits they showed in that program wherent middlesbrough either. was funny though

they always show that on sky sports when theyre going to the riverside too (just watch on friday...) or the chemical works at billingham/hartlepool.

theyve nearly removed most the cooling towers in middlesbrough and theyre removing pretty much everything in the south bank part over the next so many years.

i think people forget how small a town middlesbrough is so for some reason it always seems to be compared to towns and cities that are much much bigger.

Also just to add, it has a nice shopping area in the town centre, and it's literally 5 minutes away from some gorgeous countryside with some fantastic driving roads.

Life isn't too bad in Middlesbrough actually :)
