Midweek European Football **Spoilers** 3/4/5 April

our defending wasnt so good but then that was to be expected with 3 of our first 4 out and one of our sub defenders missing too.
but we showed a lot of character against the extra man and with the referee being so poor.
scholes has let us down again and should be thoroughly ashamed. when rooney does such things, everyone is on his back to grow up but people have always made excuses for scholes and treated it like a joke.
ronny was unplayable at times and rooney had a good game, his best for some time. also nice to see him not reacting to two absolutely shockingly bad decisions against him.
heinze continues to win back the faith in him i lost earlier in the season.
we have a fair chance now but with so many players out, i can't be too confidant. :<

Welcome to Italy.

69 mins "I am watching the game at home in Italy and listening to the commentary and the English fans are getting all the blame," says Andrew Bailey. "The commentators are saying that the English fans started throwing things into the home end after Rome scored. After MU's advice about places to avoid, the Italians are already miffed that anyone would suggest that Rome is a dangerous place for foreign football fans and this incident is being used to prove the point that it is the English fans causing all the trouble. Funnily enough, we only go to see the beatings not what caused them."

I see a new Iran situation coming up. Diplomacy fails as both countries accuse each other of having the worst supporters. (However, I agree the italian Police are thugs)

That refereeing performance stank. It absolutely stank. I felt sick at the end of the first half. The fix was in and we've done well to come out 2-1 :( Rooney and especially Ronaldo were amazing.

if that happened in England we'd get banned till kingdom come, i hope united stuff the ****'s at OT, really do disgust me the italian fans, just reminds of all the grief we got prior to heysel.

Anyway good result for all the english clubs imo, apart from the scholes sending off, united will be at reasonably full strength.

We will? Can't see Neville making it. Park might. It'll basically be the same team as tonight with fletcher in for scholes, or park in for him and giggs played in the middle. And probably Saha for Solskjaer. Won't be radically different.

The Italians are thugs. Their football is corrupt to the core, and quite frankly they don't give a **** about their own fans, let alone other countries. If they don't sort this then they should ban Italian clubs from the UEFA competitions IMO.

I think it was a very good result for us, especially as the ref was also doing his best to make sure United were well and truly beaten before the second leg. If you look at Roma's performance, the only time they threatened our goal was when the ref was giving them cheap free kicks outside the area. Apart from that they were resigned to a few long range shots.

We'll see you Italians at OT. Expect a right hammering. :D

Scholes will be a huge miss. If Roma sit back with 10 behind the ball there won't be much room for the likes of Ronaldo or Rooney to play and Scholes' passing would have been key to Utd pulling them apart.

Would still fancy Utd to go through, but its imperative that they get the first goal. If they go behind and are chasing 2 it will become close to impossible.

Utd fans are still being kept in the stadium, hope theres no trouble tonight.

Typical Italian fans/police. I didn't see any Italian police beating down on Roma fans. Seriously, English football fans always get a rough ride supporting their team away in Europe. Does it happen here in England to rival fans? We'd get thrown out of every competition if it did.

Heh. I agree with you and feel your frustration. I have moved on and stopped caring about the problems, because they will not go away for a long time.

Far too many thugs and corrupt people involved in this game. The only way Italy could sort themselves it would be if they got a ban like England once had.

EDIT: DN, the main swedish newspaper reports Major fights occured between fans at the end of the game inside Stamford Bridge.... sigh

There's a pattern here. Plenty of trouble during european games this season.
I guess they are all after to provoke the english.

Utd 9/2
Chelsea 5/1
Valencia 5/1
Bayern 6/1
Roma 13/2

I pray liverpool don't win it. Hell, i'd have bayern over liverpool winning it.

The ref was shocking, the police were disgusting, the sending off was just, Rooneys goal was superb, Ronaldo was again class, Chivu was filthy

Confirmed my theory that most Italians are filthy little greasy ********

All i have to say.

It would be fantastic if Liverpool won it but its bad luck having Liverpool as favourites. Liverpool would do much better if they were the outsiders like the last time they won it.

I listened to the 606 live phone in there and one guy brought up a very good point. That no politicians or people in authority here in the UK come out and defend our teams or fans. What happened tonight was built up and built up by Italian officials and something was going to happen.

I'm glad we got the away goal though, I hope Scholes got a good telling off from Ferguson at half time. Ronaldo and Rooney saved us tonight. We've still got a chance.

According to another major Swedish paper (Sun equiv.) 20 people have been injured in Rome, which of 7 have been stabbed with 3 seriously wounded.

They blame the italian fans for kicking things of inside, claiming the italian fans threw missiles after the first goals, Manu supporters answered by charging, with Italian police going in brutally.

That looks quite innocent

Insanity...
