Song gave the free kick away becasue Eboue failed to get the ball and so was out of position. It was actually the right thing to do imo as well. I don't see your point about the second goal either? Had he not headed the ball it would still gone to the striker.
Oh and they only had 12 shots by the end of the game...

Eboue failed to get the ball so Song had to foul a guy who would never in a million years get to the ball, with Clichy and Silvestre easily making it back in time considering the ball had gone far out to the wing in the miraculous situation that he got to the ball. Completely and utterly wrong decision, but you hate Eboue so you probably should have a go at him, stupid Eboue without 2 ft longer legs, he really should have reached it.
The second one he changed the direction of the ball meaning no one else could react to it. Had it continued there was a chance Almunia might have gotten to it or the striker might not have gotten it. You can not head a ball when you're off balance, stretching and ONLY have a chance to head it towards the goal, he could have scored directly, or whatever else. When you can't do anything useful do nothing is the general rule of defending. Alumnia was left stranded because he was reacting to where the ball was going initially, after the touch he had no chance. As it turned out the touch from song was perfect for the defender, without the touch it was probably bouncing behind him, in no way should he have done it. He had also for the umpteenth time been caught flat footed with no chance to get to the striker, something he did all night long.
He's not good ever, he's never put in a good performance in defence, except maybe in the african nations cup and so what, Rigobert Song didn't look to bad in the African nations cup either.
He is young, but time doesn't turn a woeful defender into a good one, it can simply make a semi decent to good defender a great one.
I also don't think those stats seem that accurate because the 12/6 shot stat came up sometime after the song goal and not to long after it either. though in reality they had several one on one situations after that but hadn't necessarily had the shot as Almunia smoothered several and came out and intercepted a couple. had the simply scored all the one on one's they had they would have won to be honest, which says something woeful about our defence and their completely inability to deal with throughballs. Song has zero pace, he has no business at the club in any position.
