Midweek Football 27-28th October *Spoilers*

Degen all played very well for us but Spearing and Plessis were both poor.

Really?

I thought Degen was beyond ****. Defensively he was worse than **** and going forward he was ok running off the ball but as soon as he got the ball he ****ed it up.

Considering they were out numbered in the middle, I actually thought Spearing and Plessis didn't do too bad. On the whole I thought our build up play and attacking was reasonable and with better finishing and some luck with poor decisions we could have had a couple more. On the flip side, defensively we were shocking but not suprising with an out of form Skrtel alongside Degen and Kyrgiakos, we just needed Dossena to play to top it off.

Oh and agreed about N'gog; he's far from spectacular but he's slowly maturing into a decent player. Despite a lot of the **** that gets said whenever he plays (more so because it's usually when Torres doesn't), I can't recall him ever letting us down.

Thought Silvestre looked really good last night, held the defence together well and made some important tackles. Still think we need to bring in some cover at centrehalf in January though considering Djourou's long term injury and Song being at ACoN.

Was it Barcelona?

Did you really just complain that Arsene Wenger doesn't bring enough youngsters up through the side?

I think that might just be my favourite thing you've ever posted.

OH god the same old argument, lets look at the current first team and younger players, Fabregas, Clichy, Song, Theo, etc, etc, we bought these players as players ready to join the first team squad, same with Sagna, Eboue, Nasri, Vela, etc, etc.

The amount of players we've trained who've made it into the first team squad in the past, well, decade, are few and far between, we buy the massive majority of our talent. Cole and probably Wilshire, Bendtner is one of the players whose spent the longest at Arsenal before hitting the first team, and Ramsey looks like maybe being the next youngest player to get significant usage, again another player we didn't train, but bought how he is now.

The likes of Randall, Bentley, Pennant, Bothroyd and dozens of others from our reserves and youth squads simply don't make it, much like Randall, Lansbury, Barazite, Traore(most likely), both Hoytes.

Bendtner is pretty much the youngest player at the club whose been here the longest who didn't walk into the first team on his arrival. Cesc is realistically the only player who was first team before being 20, and he's very much the exception not the rule and we still bought him the 98% finished article. Clichy was great when we got him, only Cole and long term injuries kept him out. We play very very VERY few players who we don't buy the mostly finished article, which isn't the common definition of "youth" in the game. None of these guys came "through the ranks".

Most clubs have a few young players in the first team, most teams don't seem to have the turnaround we do either, keep that in mind. Our style is to buy more young players and sell older players while they are worth anything, its hardly brilliant, younger players aren't worse, its simply a choice.

We aren't playing untested through the ranks 16-20 year olds, we're playing mostly bought players who were 19-22 when they joined the club and already pretty damn good.

Pretty good performance put in by the Arsenal youngsters...perhaps its time Wenger gave Ramsey some proper 1st team action as hes getting better and better everytime i see him play.

Awesome goal by Merida...thunderous strike and a nice goal by Liverpool to even it up.

Bendtner as much as he got that goal to seal the game...i just dont think hes cut out for Prem football...fair enough hes been injured but his first touch is just so ****ing rubbish...he has absolutely no control at the best of times and his movement isnt all that great either.

As for the North London derby this weekend??..geez its going to be a tough game to call..id like to go with an Arsenal win but sadly i think we will either lose or get a draw out of it...again our defense and lack of concentration will cost us the game...hopefully im proved wrong as ill be watching the game on Sat on sky hd. Tottenham as much as i dislike that team have the ability to beat anyone on the day...they have some fab players and having the biggest quitter in football managing them is something that goes in their favour:p.
I just hope Arsenal totally demolish them and put a few past them...5 or 6 would nice:p:D

Was it Barcelona?
.

Dont think Utd have played Barca that often in the last 20 years to be honest and the last but one match (2008 semi) Utd of course won - as we won the title against Chelsea

I also thought SAF / Utd beat them in the early 90's

edit 90/91 Club World Championship final 2-1 to Utd

94/95 CL group 2-2 draw at OT, 4-0 drubbing away
98/99 CL group 3-3 home and away

There was another CWC in 83 home and away tie where Utd won on aggregate 3-2

Cup winners Cup final, Mark Hughes scored a stunner.

That's why I'm thinking they haven't beaten us 4 times in a row, like I said I'm struggling to think of any team that has beaten us 4TIAR.

Real Madrid maybe

doh cup winners cup even ;)

Possibly Real Madrid, they have certainly had the sign over us in recent years, just cant remember (and cant find with a quick search) last four results
