Midweek Football Thread *spoilers inside so watch out*

In the first handful of games this season Arsenal were firing loads in from outside the box, pretty sure they were the team who's scored most from outside the box in the whole league. Which is highly odd for an Arsenal team

You know this how? Crystal Ball?

Nope but odds are against you winning it. If you'd like to place a bet on it I'd be more than happy ;)

You do realise at least at least 4 of the highest rated youngsters at the club are either out on Loan or Cup tied.

Who? I thought Wilshire, Ramsey, Vela and Merida were the big high hopes for Arsenal these days?

Wilshere is the biggest hope of the current young players.

Gibbs - Injured, everyone has seen how good he could be
Nordtveit - On loan at Nurnberg
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - Cup tied, played for Blackpool. Youth team Captain last season.
Henri Lansbury - On loan at Watford

I think all 4 of those could have played if they had been at the club/available

Well you know more about your club than me, I've never heard of any of them bar Gibbs although I dont see him not playing being a disadvantage as I've always thought Traore has looked quite useful

Agreed, don't think he has what it takes but I'm happy to see him given a chance when he returns from the loan spell. Ultimately though he'll probably end up at a lower/mid table club

Not too bothered about last night, but what does worry me is that since RvP died, Arsenal have played 3, lost 3 and scored 0. That's pretty worrying

I was thinking this but we played a chelsea side that can defend and against city i think we should've played 2 up front rather than the 4-3-3. I think the goals will flow against stoke tbh.

The run arsenal went on from losing to city in the league shows that we only had 4 games away from home (fulham 0-1, west ham 2-2, wolves 1-4 and sunderland 1-0).

To me arsenal's problems come whenever they play away from home. We need some strength & height up front and in midfield, i dont think Almunia is that bad.

Arsenal's biggest problem in the last few games has come from not getting the first goal, allowing the opposing teams to be ultra defensive (not particularly last night)

Hasn't that always been the trouble since the 'invincibles'?

Quite possibly although i think the season where eduardo got injured at birmingham we did pretty well away from home (we beat bolton away 2-3 with 10 men as well as being 0-2 at HT), if i remember rightly "if" we had won that game we would've been 7 or 8 points clear but these things happen!

I would just like to go to an arsenal game at home n see us attack down the wings and get crosses in, you will see that teams pack the middle and we don't get down the flanks and even when we do the cross is either poor or no1 there to attack it

Also every time a team takes a shot it seems to go in, was looking on sky sports for a shots to goals ratio/% to back it up but cant find it at the moment (i did see it the other day in an article, we're around 3rd)

Yeah it's a joke. Also the own goal on Sunday was maybe the one that sealed the game as the players looked gutted. Also, Arsenal have hit the wood work loads etc. I think that the team have had a bit of bad luck and unfortunately that seems to decide the seasons far too often.

Ahhh well another trophy, what might have been ours is gone...if only Wenger had played a more stronger side than what he put out last night...didnt think Man City would have any problems rolling us over with the strength of their squad.

Ho hum...fast becoming another season where we end up with jack all...we really need to spend some money this january...at least buy a proven goal scorer as Edu isnt doing the job anymore...the fact that we have lost RVP for 5 mths is a massive blow and has affected us in the last few games since his injury...
