My thoughts on the Wenger handshake, or lack of. I think that he is right, and that he is entitled to shake the hand of whoever he chooses. Mark Hughes had a spat with him on the sidelines and showed no more class than Wenger did by walking away. Listening to the phone in show on Sky Sports apparently one of the callers lip read a few of the things that Mark Hughes said to Wenger and they were supposedly foul mouthed expletives, if that's the case then I would've walked down the tunnel also.
As for the match, not the greatest display from Arsenal but I'm not going to criticise Arsene. It's a tradition of his to play a youth squad for the Carling Cup, it gives them a run of games and it provides them with much needed experience. I'm disappointed that we didn't have a few star names on the bench but I cannot criticize the bosses selection. I don't think any of us Arsenal fans here were expecting a win although that doesn't make the dumping out of the cup any easier.
We now need to concentrate fully on the League, the CL and the FA cup. When the window opens in January we need to look at a few positions, in my opinion we need to get some defensive cover in and another forward as in the past 2 or 3 games we've looked absolutely toothless in attack and seem to have a lot of players who are only really suitable in the same position. Injuries haven't helped us but that's what the transfer market is for; let's bring in some cover for our problems positions, a LB is a must.
It'd be interesting to see what happens with Marouane Chamakh the Bordeaux striker. His contract is up soon so will Wenger wait for it to expire and get him on a free? I doubt that his club will let this happen and will try and flog him this January although I heard a few other clubs were interested. Van Nistelrooy would have been an interesting acquisition although I don't think he fits into our style of play and I think being a former Man Utd player he might be a bit apprehensive in joining us, although that may not be the case as he's apparently interested in joining Liverpool!
We do need a proper, world class keeper, I'm not talking some promising young player I am talking a fully fledged international, and they don't come cheap. Wenger needs to bend his own rules on this one and bite the bullet, Almunia does an alright job but has been susceptible to some poor performances of late and Mannone, I don't even need to elaborate on how shocking he is.
Anyway, big ol' wall 'o' text over now, I'll look forward to reading what the other Gooners think.
