Migrating a RAID setup

Current I have a RAID 0 setup (2 x 1TB) and I'm in the process of building a new rig.

Will I be able to just disconnect and reconnect to the new motherboard and follow the usual set up of RAID within the BIOS and etc?

If the SATA controllers are identicle and/or compatible

If not - Backup all data. Break RAID config. Add disks to new system, recreate RAID volume. Restore data.

When I break the RAID config, will that not wipe the data?
Also when I recreate the RAID volume, do I have to make sure the SATA cables go in the right order?

Yes, which is why Sin_Chase said to back up and then restore.

It doesn't matter as long as they're connected to 2 compatible ports.


Are there just data files on the array?

If there are, and you're moving between compatible chipsets, then you should just be able to plug the 2 disks in, set SATA mode to RAID and the array will be recognised.

If the array contains the OS or installed programs then you're best doing a reinstall anyway.

Thanks - I wasn't too sure if doing was going to waste my time or wasn't it more beneficial to wipe, recreate partition and start again
