Migrating to SSD for the first time?

superfetch was not automatically disabled on my system when I installed Win7 on the falcon. Best to do all of them yourself :)

Which of the two would you go for:

Samsung PB22-J 64GB @ £140 approx which offers:

- Read Speed of 220MB/s
- Write Speed of 120MB/s
- Onboard 128MB Cache

Or

G.Skill Falcon 64GB @ £165 approx which offers:

- Sequential Read Rate 230MB/sec
- Sequential Write Rate 135MB/sec
- Access Time >0.2ms

The specs are pretty much the same, just a case of choosing Samsung or G.Skill ... i'm currently using 2 x Sammy F1's too

Opinions?

G.Skill, the 128GB is faster then advertised so it may be slightly more faster then the Advertised 60GB speeds. Also, they have the ability to be TRIM'ed in order to keep up performance, unlike the samsungs.

so if my superfetch wasnt disabled at first system startup, does that mean there could be something up with the random writes on my drive? :S

gonna go find a program to test, any good ones?

about auto disable, it does not always work

superfetch is running on my system but it is Not filling the ram up so it is off, auto defrag is Not off i had to untick it from the auto defrag schedule,, Prefetchers was not off i had to goto the reg and set it to 0

Any SSD that has cache on it that you get is Far faster then an HDD under norm use (not running benchmarks) Samsung/corsair or supertallent/falcon/vertex ( > / ones are the same drives just re-branded SSDs)

@Talrinys
superfetch and prefetchers are for HDDs to overcome there slow access times, SSDs have basically no access times so no point Prefilling ram (basically what the MS blog says) i found superfetch sometimes been counter productive on some systems (loading upram when trying to do stuff and makeing the system slow down)

for most i ignore the 64GB SSDs you run out of space aim for 128gb and an HDD for any other files (an samsung ecogreen or WD green to keep it Quiet)

tips for SSDs, full formats seem to not an good idea on SSDs, filling the SSD to the point there is no free space left(keep 20-30gb free), and using tools that wipe free space (CCleaner)

do not be put off with SSDs that do have cache but have around the same read and Write speeds of HDDs (the New OCZ drive is the same in that matter) there is no resone to buy an JMicron SSD as fromt he list you can get samsung and or the corsair SSD for -/+ £3
