* Milkyway@home runs a lot faster on ATI GPU's, it does work on nvidia GPU's (min. GTX260) but you would be better off running SETi@Home
on that hardware if you want to get the very best out of it, having said that a new application could be released at any
time that could change that situation.

Milkyway@Home requires a GPU supporting Double Precision arithmetic.

Cheers for the news. :)

Quick question: are there planned outage days on the MW@H servers like there are with seti... or is downtime just random/unexpected?

Random but its never off for long so dont worry about it, if you do end up with some downtime due to lack of work just run a backup project, thats what most of us do mate :)

Hope this all works as its my first post:)

Im going to try a run at our Mr Cyclo, not sure if i can do it with the kit i have but we shall see:confused:

A big thanks to halz for mailing me in on this.

Fantastic to hear hear from you S'ah, you are most welcome here anytime :)

Regards your run at Cyclo, I wish you luck....................your going to need it :p

PS. What are the odds on you bringing your team over from Nemesis for the SETI team :D

Bah, some people in here get crazy RAC. Well it seems like my 4890 can only provide so far. Hope SI will provide a decent boost in Milkyway@home compared with the 5870.

The 4890 will do just fine here S'ah, just keep them results coming :)

I currently have two 4850x2's and a 4770 running MW but have just snagged a sapphire 5970 4GB toxic on the bay at a silly price

I think Cyclo has something to worry after all, nice catch S'ah :)

Psssst.......careful how you use the word Toxic around here, could get confusing :p

Noticed I got a tiffy - not a big one.....

From small acorns big trees grow :)

Just a quick note to any members looking in, please check that your email is valid on your account as a few emails got bounced back.............Ba ;)

I'm out of action for a bit, the Mint install i had running BOINC suddenly decided to loose all forms of networking... so i've been using Peppermint while i try to fix it. Shouldn't be long now, just need to add a few lines to the networking config file but... i'm 'Ewan' by the way :p

[Fires up Google to see what Mint and the Peppermint you refer to are] :o

Still trying to acquire a Radeon for Milkyway@home, almost had Spie's sons 4870x2 but some swine beat me to it :(

Thanks for the heads up mate but I have my mind set on a x2 :), still hoping the other sale falls through :p

Muke1428 has already been nuked so I'm in the top ten , Mr Halz you're next, parp parp.

Aaaaaaargh :( looks like I will be outbid on a 4870X2 again

I just might let you feel my full cuda force :p

Dont those tiffys look good S'ah :D

How quickly it can all go wrong, one of my 4850x2's went pop after 5 mins on DNETC during a MW outage (clocked at stock, beware) taking my monitors dvi port with it(vga only now)
But 5970 arrived today and is up and running:D just as MW site goes down:rolleyes:

All ATI projects now down!

Hope everything is all ok now mate, let us know how you get on with the HD5970 :)

It WAS all good with the 5970 running MW WU in about 1.48 mins until i had the bright idea of trying the 4850x2 in the same system, all WU error out. Taken the 4850x2 out but WUs still error out:rolleyes:
Re-installing now.
Got another 5970 coming this week along with two accelero coolers ,so you may have found yourself a cheap X2 Mr halz.

BTW my email address is now updated.

Interesting but will a 4850x2 and a 4870x2 live happily together in the same case because I have commited myself to a 4870x2 already.
