The modders do work together for the better of the community, they all work together in Feed the beast. All of their mods are distributed in packs through the FTB client, this doesn't use ad.fly to download them at all. If they were in it just to make money, they wouldn't allow their mods to be on any packs at all so they can generate more clicks/$$.
The reason the modders are anti-technic is more to do with attitude and the way they act, yes it is only a mod, but it is still their work. 'Sort of' the same principal as a photographer would have a problem with someone using his work in a magazine without permission.
The difference of course being that a photograph is an original work in the way a mod is not. It might be
their work but that doesn't mean that it is an original work.
If I took a photograph and Photoshopped something into it without the photographers permission, then distributed it on the internet, I wouldn't expect to get all uppity about it if said image found it's way onto the front page of reddit, even if it wasn't me that posted it there.
I don't disagree that if the modders don't want their work in a pack it shouldn't be in there, at least in this scenario. I simply don't sympathize with their attitude on any level. If I were them I would be happy to have the exposure to be totally honest, rather than whinging about it for essentially no reason.
I don't get what the objective is of minecraft. I play with my kids and we build stuff. Is there anything more? I once wondered onto a multiplayer server and was like...wtf do I do? lol Lots of people were just walking around doing err...nothing.
This is an interesting question that I have never been able to answer. The only thing I can determine is that, in fact, there is no objective and the only thing you do is construct things.
I suppose it depends whether or not that appeals to you as a concept. Personally, for the most part, I have other creative outlets and only play Minecraft very occasionally.
Individuals also seem to attempt to shoehorn additional mechanics into the game and find entertainment from the so called 'combat system' but that makes basically no sense to me.
