Mini Cooper S

its clear from your posts which you keep editing you are a troll

Yea whatever.

like i said in my original posts i didnt wanna discuss it, its not like im gonna come onto a forum and say, guess what im getting a new car for travelling to and from the hospital, and to doctors surgeries, etc

I'd not have pressed about it were you not initially so keen to emphasis how its totally free. You seemed proud of it! You brought your personal issues into this, nobody else. I didn't even notice you'd said Motability first of all - it took a quote from another poster to make me notice it. I was discussing Contract Hire on a forum about cars.

In future if you wish to keep such things to yourself, which I'd understand, perhaps think twice before telling everyone how everything is totally free, woohoo, as if its some sort of amazing prize. I mean your mate at Uni and the £10m house. What? It was coming across as some amazing blag, especially with your 'super cool' private plate, etc etc until you suddenly changed tack once someone else took a dim view of it all.

Now like I said, there is nothing to be acheived from discussing this any further so this really will be my last post on this matter. I'll be happy to discuss options on Mini's and private plate transfers but I've made my thoughts clear on the other issue and won't be drawn into discussion about it any further. I suggest everyone else, including Psycho, also agrees to go back to discussing the Mini Cooper S and related topics becuase I can't see this ending in a friendly manner otherwise.

Pick the Chilli pack, go for the rain sensing wipers as well becuase they are genuinelly useful. Don't bother with the styling cack. Make sure you've got AC - I think it's included in the Chilli pack.

I've not read a lot of the thread so pardon if I'm wrong but why do you need a newish Mini if all you're doing is picking up pills for her?

It's all a tad confusing from what I have read so far.

its not just used for that though? she has to be taken to the hospital, dentist, etc on a regular basis

sometimes if shes in too much pain they have to come to the house

you cant get second hand cars on motability unless you wanna buy the car outright and then you own it

but then you have to pay for insurance, servicing, etc

with the fact she needs constant care and looking after, the car needs to be reliable, my family have to take it in shifts to look after her so i dont have all the free time i used to, so i work less now to look after her, so its easier for me to just use the motability car for my needs as well as hers rather than buying my own car as well, put it this way, taking the train to uni and back takes up over an hour in travelling time there and then back, thats 2 hours, if i use the car, it will take 20 minutes, i save time which can be spent at home looking after her

does the fact i want the car to be nice make me bad??

seriously??

I'll prob get flogged for this but wouldn't a bigger car be more suitable to taking your mother around on a regular basis. Something which is easier to get into?

Thanks for educating me on the motability scheme.

No issues with the car being nice but seems that you're going for looks over practicality purely because you're driving it 90% of the time on your own.

This is the impression I get.

I'll strap up my flame jacket anyway.

you need to pay a lot for some of the bigger cars

for example toyota landcruiser is £10,000 minimum which you dont get back

the car also has to be under group 8 in insurance

when you add all these factors in, the mini was the best bet i came up with

i have fully researched this

you can get a range rover sport on motability too, but obviously costs you a fair whack

maybe its just me but i would never buy certain makes of car

fiat or anything french for example, or a ford

my shortlist was

audi A3, vw golf and a mini

the mini won, like i said i have fully researched all of this, if somebody can reccomend an insurance group 8 or under car, which is nice, ill certainly have a look, it has to be diesel though (this is a personal preference), the mini does like 72 mpg - so it has low fuel costs, thats one of the biggest selling points

What would be wrong with a Ford Focus, shock horror I bring up a Focus again..

But the Focus would no doubt be as reliable as the Mini, it's bigger.

Fair enough it's not a lot to look at compared to a Mini but if the car is aimed at purely your mums needs this should not matter.

Please don't take this the wrong way as I'm trying to take care to not offend but it seems the car is more for yourself than your mother. After all you want the one with go faster stripes private plate and numerous other extras that would hardly benefit your mother.

as i have said before i have to pay for all of these out of my own pocket, and i dont like fords, sorry but i prefer shall i dare say "classier" cars, like i said i looked at the A3 and the golf too, but you need to pay like £6000 minimum for them on top of the motability

she will only be sitting in the front, i doubt anybody else will ever be in the car apart from myself and my mum, so i dont care if its cramped in the back

i have yet to go to the showroom and sit inside one

after i do that i will know if it suitable or not

if it isnt i will look at other cars

as for the go faster stripes - you have to choose a colour do you not????????? so what does it matter if i choose red or black and white???? yes its a personal preference which i have to pay for myself?? as for the reggy plate i may not even be allowed it on this car, so it will be put on my dads, the reggy plate is for life, ive always wanted a private reggy with my name, but it costs £75,000 so i bought this one instead, which fox says i dont own, so i will be phoning new reg tomorrow to clarify the situation

this thread has gone completely off topic now - i clearly never wanted it to go this way from my original post, thats why i never went into great detail, i just said contract hire so you would know the situation but not the full details, im not comfortable talking about the situation my mum is in so i wont partake further in this thread

What does it matter what you prefer. A Ford would still tick all the boxes and would be reliable aswell as a Mini, no doubt you could have a bigger Ford which would be more practical for your mother. For the money.

It seems it's all about what you would prefer to drive, since after all you're the one driving it 90% of the time. Why on earth does it have to be classy to meet your mothers needs. Fact is it doesn't, it wouldn't make any difference to her I very much doubt. Practicality is what will matter to her, 'classy' shouldn't come into a Motability car IMO.

Surely this is border line fraud like someone else mentioned.

i will be driving it 100% of the time, my mum can no longer drive due to disabilities

so i will choose a car that fits both purposes, you can choose whatever car you want for a reason???? why are their range rover sports in the list of cars to choose from???? even lexus's????? i have shown my mum the mini brochure and she has approved

do i need to go further????

last post now bye

Holy crap.. I actually feel sorry for Psycho Sonny,
If what he is doing is not breaking the law, then for the love of god just leave him be..

You may protest that you aren't jealous, but clearly his 'free mini' irks you for some reason..

If he doesn't like Ford Focus' then fine, as long as his Mum can get in/out the Mini, which is a 3 door with good passenger seat access, is there really any need to tell him what car he 'should' have as a disability wagon..

One good think I do like about the mini is the ability to choose roof/mirror colours etc, that's quite unique amongst mainstream cars, and doesn't affect residuals..

Good choice, sir ;)

:)

This has turned into quite a bun fight hasn't it?

I'm not sure I want to get involved anymore but what I will say is that for transporting one/ two people without huge amounts of luggage the MINI is by no means a bad choice, if that two becomes three and both the people in the front have long legs you are screwed. If your over 6ft or your passenger needs maximum leg room (which is very generous) the MINI is probably a 2+2 not a four seater. However for someone with a disability the doors open very wide and are quite long making getting in and out a breeze as long as you are able to get down quite low.

Fox did have a very valid point. There was no need to bring the 'free' bit into the equation as this is what lead this thread to where it is at now. Surely anyone who said they got a car for free is going to be open to questions incase we are missing out on something and want a piece of the action!
