Mini Cooper S

i will be getting a brand new mini cooper d very soon

i will be getting the car on a contract hire, and keeping it for 3 years

i will never own the car,

Are you quite mad? Unless you are a business user and can claim the VAT back Contract Hire is notoriously poor value for a private buyer.

How is the car free? Surely you have to spend several hundred quid a month on the contract hire? And contract hires dont include insurance? Surely all you are doing is hiring a car for 3 years?

right i dont wanna go into all the details

insurance is free

all i have to pay for is the optional extras, thats all you need to know

so what extras are actually worth getting??

ive pretty much ruled most of them out

stability control, sound system, chilli pack, metallic paint, rain sensing wipers are the ones i know im going for, is there any others that are maybe worth it???

A petrol engine ;) tick that option

It's just not all it's cracked up to be. I nearly specced it in my Cooper S. Then I heard one in a demo car so unticked the option box and am in the process of sorting my own system out.

The HK in the one I drove was good with underseat subs. I thought it was very good. Is this the same system?

So why even mention it?
How?
No, it's not 'all we need to know'. Are you telling fibs?

A lot of the guys in work buy on Contract Hire, with 'free insurance', it seems mad on the surface, until you realise why they do it that way.. or rather why the company make them do it that way..

Oddly they only pay for 'extras' or should I say the only money that leaves their salary is for the extra's.. sounds a similar situation, so it's feasible..

First thought was that it was just a work lease car but.. he is a full time Uni student.

Its like a very bad dinner party in here with everyone speaking over each other and at cross purposes, is there anyway we can switch off the Foxbot application?

Anyway back on subject a bit

I don't have Stab Control on the Works, you get Traction as standard I believe and you don't really need it, lose the sound system go for the basic Boost model and either add the MP3 player interface or an Aux In which will take a 3.5mm jack or even better take it somewhere and get the whole thing replaced and then change it back at the end of the lease. Rain sensors are OK I had them on my Clio and they work fine but can be a bit hit and miss, rather than throw money which you won't get back at them I'd lose them. If you like the Pepper White/ Black combo you don't need metallic paint, btw if I get a new R56 Works I'll probably go PW/B myself.

Have to say I disagree with you on the Climate Control, I love mine and wouldn't be without it, sun roof I can take or leave they look awful on a white roof OK on black but as long as you have Air Con why bother? I love having Cruise its a cheap option and great on a long motorway run if its the same as the R53 it also gives you phone and hifi controls on the wheel which can be linked to after market hands free and hifi which is much much cheaper than BT integration.

I highly recommend MINI2.com if you want all things MINI without the rude comments if you are still debating your choice then obviously stay here, you never know you might get your mind changed and end up with a Mondeo or a BMW ;)

You are the one who is making an issue of the lease thing, I know you want to help but the guy seems to know what he's talking about and doesn't seem to want to discuss it. The anti MINI stuff I can take, I'll respect people opinions and come back with what I believe but I don't think its fair to keep pushing at this guy when he has specifically asked you to stop with the lease stuff, for all we know he's got a deal through family or something.

Chill you mothers.

I have driven a JCW MINI, it was a cracking little thing. A huge amount of fun for a small modern hatchback, felt very positive to drive, it really inspired you to push on. The power never seemed to really tail off, something you can thank the supercharger for. The drawback of that for some is that you don't get that "rush" you have from a VTEC or turbocharged car.

Not raw enough for my tastes, but what modern car is? People think that not having ESP is "raw" these days :D

Could I own one? No way, it's too expensive for what it is and I'm sure the supercharger whine which was enjoyable on a test run would aggravate me after a few weeks.

I don't think someone in the market for a Mini is going to be looking at Jaguars.

matt has managed to guess correctly how im getting all these free perks its due to a family member

yes i am a full time student - so what? theres a girl at my uni who is a full time student and has bought a house in dubai palm islands worth £10 million but that isnt relevant when we are talking about the best options for a mini now is it?????

i am also the director of a company is this relevant????

as i said i know what im getting, thats why im going for the contract hire and ill probably get another brand new car in 3 years with all the same free perks, free insurance, etc

can we get back on topic now or do you wanna ask more personal questions???

well it looks as if im best just sticking with the basic chilli pack and adding an extra here and there, like i said i wont own the car so its not really worth buying a lot of options, i was just wondering if there was something i was missing

rain sensors are only £90ish so thats £30 a year basically hardly worth taking off

i really do like some of the 17inch alloys but then your talking about another £600, i cant buy my own alloys and stick them on for the 3 years because then i would have to tell the insurance and since im not paying for the insurance, it could become dodgy so that isnt an option

ohh maybe you guys could answer a question for me, i have my own private registration plate, it is a cherished number plate, meaning you can stick it on any car no matter what age it is, would i be allowed to use this on the mini??? even though i dont own the mini?? or do i need to keep it on one of my dads cars?? if anyone knew the answer to this it would be very helpful, otherwise ill just ask the company im getting the car through

just in case your wondering the registration plate is

the first person to guess what the registration means gets an e-cookie
