Hey guys,
I'm on the lookout for a mini fridge for my uni room, one that can store fruit juices and milk. The reason for getting one is my flatmates keep nicking mine.Went home for the weekend come back to find two cartons of apple juice are gone and my unopened two pints of milk is finished aswel. So was wondering whats the cheapest fridge I can get that can store milk and fruit juices?

Thanks.

Also check your lease to make sure your not breaking the terms buy having a fridge in your room. This was the case in my first year accommodation and I'm not actually sure about my current house but believe its the same. Sad but true.:(

i had one of these when i was at uni. i found it ok noise wise

I'd get one of the small fan operated ones (thermo-electric?) as they aren't going to be anything as noisy as a mini-fridge, plus you are less likely to get in trouble for having one.

I had a Chilli Egg from Gadget Shop when I was uni. Was great for exactly what you require, keeping milk and juice really cool. The fan eventually clogged up with dust though and I replaced it with a bigger fan which actually makes it even colder, but is much noisier now.

A lot of these "drink cooler" fridges aren't suitable fod food btw as the temperature flactutates outside recommended levels for things like dairy. So, if it's opened, expect a shorter life than in a normal fridge.

This being said, I got a cheapie Guiness one that stored everything fine.

The Chilli Egg that I have was colder than the fridge we had in our Uni Kitchen (no doubt it gets overloaded and is used by so many students that its not going to be very good). It would even has little bits of frost on the back of it.

im back in halls and the number of people who have these and keep there food in is just silly. you find in some flats theres just 2 people sharing fridge. the noise on some of them is awful and i know of a girl who turns it off when shes in bed. strange

Easier solution.

Get a carton of apple juice/pint of milk, and dissolve a load of salt or something equally unpleasant in it, and wait for your flatmates to nick it :p
We did something similar. One guy's girlfriend used to come over and lounge around the house eating all our food and drinking all our beverages for weeks at a time. One day she drank my brand new bottle of root beer and I flew off the handle. One of my other roommates decided to get a new bottle. He tore off the label and wrote on the inside. He then stuck it back on as best he could. She wouldn't suspect a thing since he often gets "scratch and dent" foodstuffs. She came by that evening and proceeded to drink half the bottle. She never came back.

Inside the bottle he'd written, "I hope you liked drinking my **** you thieving whore!"

That's right, he urinated in the bottle.

Or as my housemate did, laxatives, lots of laxatives...

*In no way do I endorse putting laxatives in milk or other foods*:p
