Mini/micro LED QHD monitors

I'm currently toying with the idea of swapping out my LG GL850A QHD monitor with a micro LED monitor but there doesn't appear to be many options. Reason for micro LED is due to the heavy use for work also.

I'm not wanting to move to 4K, I would like to stay with 1440p resolution.

IPS variant also, not VA.

I think I'll need to stay at 27" too due to space limitations.

Any recommendations for those requirements? I think there aren't many options unless I've missed them.

I've got the xiaomi miniled monitor, can recommend, except to note that the firmware has red shift issues...but that's rectifiable

Thanks, I'll go and check that out.

I also have a Xiaomi G27i Pro, and I do really like my G27i Pro, but the decision not to make it user firmware updateable, and also to lock the user out of most of the OSD whilst its in HDR was a very stupid move IMO, and very frustrating.
Xiaomi have got most of the way to making an excellent screen, especially for the sale price, but they then trip and fall over at the last minute. I only paid around £225 for mine, and IIRC I got a bit of cashback too, back in October 2024, and for that money, it was worth it. I'm not sure I'd spend the nearly £300 it costs right now on it however.

If I was buying now, I'd also be tempted to give the KTC a go. Similarly Chinesium, but higher official HDR spec vs the Xiaomi, and theoretically USB firmware updateable; albeit the updates are only for the chinese market atm.

Still at £250, its a lot of monitor for the money; and no red tint issue. Otherwise, the spec seems to be extremely close to the Xiaomi, with the exception the Xiaomi is an IPS, whilst the KTC is using one of the HVA (newest gen VA) panels. The fact its a newer gen 'Hyper' VA panel, means you theoretically should get close to the motion clarity of a good IPS, but also means you'll get to benefit from higher native contrast ratio that VA has long benefitted from. Quality control is meant to be a bit hit and miss sometimes (same for both Xiaomi and KTC, but at least if theres anything wrong out the box it should be easy to get a replacement).

Just try and sit as centrally as possible to the monitor, as even if its massively improved, I suspect IPS will still be better in this regard.

absolutely agree, unfortunately :(

i've sworn off VA screens so definitely no appetite to try anything that has them lol

@tamzzy
Its frustrating, I have a love/hate relationship with the Xiaomi, I LOVE so many things about it, but it sometimes just beats me with a stick lol Its such a polar screen haha
If they had just provided firmware updates to correct the bugs; it could have been THE go to mid-range screen. My first one was pretty buggy (and didnt always swap input or wake from sleep nicely), it got swapped with the one I have now which still plays up a bit, but its better (both on firmware 1.0.07).
For £220 + cashback, worth it; not for the £290 its sitting at right now IMO.

I agree, in general with VA panels as well, having had a few in the past. From a few in depth reviews I've read though, these newer HVA panels do sound like a marked improvement though over the older style panels, much reduced smear, much faster motion (5ms GTG for example, which is about equal to a gaming IPS panel, and only around 16ms for the worst case dark pixel movements, WAY better than they used to be), and much higher contrast ratio than your average IPS.

That's why I'd probably give the KTC a go now if I was buying now, and just return it in the first 14 days if I was unhappy; especiallyt given that crazy high HDR rating (I saw up to ~1800nits) in one review, means you're likely going to spend more time enjoying the picture, than focusing into the blacks, whilst the high contrast ratio of the panel (around 5000:1) would probably give about as best a compromise picture as possible for someone who's going to spend hours working as well as gaming on the screen (which is why OLEDs are no good for me for PC) :)

To be honest, I'm quite intrigued by the hva panel. I've been watching a number of reviews where they have slowed down content and said there is minimal ghosting etc.

I may give it a whirl and see how it compares to my IPS screen from 2019. I suspect it may surprise me.

go on. do it and report back :D
even going from a 2020 IPS panel (my old lenovo) to the xiaomi IPS panel showed noticeable improvement in picture quality and response, so I for one will be interested in your experience with the newer VA monitors

(the older VA monitors physically gave me headaches from all the black smearing that used to happen)

You know what, I will. Just waiting for the delivery date to shift to a day in working from home!

Turns out a few other members have it according to this thread.

Modern VA's are better than older VA panels by a long way - but they do still suffer from black smearing. It's just the nature of the tech.

Some people don't notice it, some people don't play games that draw attention to it. Definitely worth trying it out for yourself!

I played Doom Eternal as fast as I could and couldn't see smearing on the old Samsung VA, generally it's the slow panning which showed up the worst, and even then it's only specific things, like Tomb Raider in a corridor, side scrolling. And in RDR, at night side scrolling with the mountains

Unless I have a save game of the same area, it's difficult to come across it.

I think I'll give it a whirl.
I mainly play FPS games so not sure if that would exacerbate the issue or not?

The only reason I'm looking at mini led is in using the monitor a lot for work, perhaps 70-80% of the use is work and the rest gaming. I can't see it changing much in the future.

If it was a pure gaming rig only, I would likely go oled.

Doom is the fastest pace FPS I've played, and I didn't see ghosting on the old Samsung VA. Also the drop off issue with VA probably only when your head is on the left of the screen say 1" from the bezel and you look to the far right, then notice drop off. But with head in the middle it's fine.

More even black levels with VA...so IPS glow is pretty distracting.

that's mine
