Mini-Review: Samsung 40KU6400 as a monitor

Hi all, I got the 40" 6400 yesterday, and am pleased with it. I still need to set it up properly and do all the firmware updates etc.

Because it's on my desk, and the stand it comes with, the screen is a bit further forward than I'd like.

I've seen this: Fitueyes TV Stand Universal Table Top Flat Screen TV Base Fits 27 to 55 Inch Max VESA 400x400 TT104201GB available from the rainforest place. It's VESA 400 which fits the Samsung, but I'm wondering what screws I'll need to attach the new stand. Any ideas?

Thanks again, to the OP and everyone else for all the help with this screen.

The vesa is 200 x 200 on the 40" i recently wall mounted mine and had to get M8 x 45 screws to mount it

Great thread.

Picked up a 40 inch MU6120.

Wan't sure about getting this TV for monitor use but this thread swayed me & I'm very happy with the screen overall
Gona take a bit getting used to looking up @ the top of the screen but well worth it

Interesting thread! I've been looking at 27" 2k/4k monitors and more recently, 34" ultrawide. Then I saw this thread and it's got me thinking about 40/43". I'll have a proper read over the weekend but maybe someone who owns a Samsung MU6400 could give me their opinion (or similar model like the Sony KD43XE8396.

I'm no pro but I want something that will give me fairly accurate colours for editing pictures. Do these 4k TV's cut it or should I really stick to ips monitors?

Nice to see the thread still going!

I might replace my Dell Ultrawide 34" in work with another 40" HDTV, I just love the real-estate it gives at home. As soon as I show people it in my study and tell them the price, they can't believe it! I've been doing more 60hz gaming on it recently and still really love it as an all-rounder. The only improvement I'd like is more HDMI 2.0 inputs, so just reading up now on the other TV's you've all been getting!

If you are serious about photo-editing and want accurate colours, you pretty much want to buy yourself a colorimeter, I use the i1 Display Pro, but a colormunki or spyder would be good start, it's the one way to guarantee accuracy on all your PC monitors. I did the KU6400 and that is absolutely bang on for SRGB photo editing.

I've got a 32" AOC B Grade from here, for a monitor I think it's brilliant, 1440P and excellent colours despite the bad reviews, I also have a Samsung 49" MU6400, which is 10bit and does HDR to some degree, it's most amazing and for gaming with controller friendly games it's absolutely gorgeous!

As above, posted before seeing your comment, I have the MU6400, I'm no videophile or anything but I find the colours are amazing on it, I watching this film with all sorts of stuff from WoW it seemed and Will Smith in it and by god I've never seen video quality as good, I was super chuffed for £489!

I'm not serious serious (if that makes sense!). I take a lot of pics with a DSLR and rather than make do with a few quick edits on my iPad, I'd like to learn how to use Lightroom & Photoshop properly on an upcoming new PC. Pretty much decided on either the Dell or LG 34" ultrawide until I came across this thread.

The Samsung 6400 is £300 cheaper with a bigger screen size & better warranty (shame Curry's don't do 5 years on the newer 6470). So now trying to figure out how these TV's compare to a dedicated monitor for someone favouring editing photos as their main PC use. Will be gaming using a 1070ti.

I'm definitely glad I came across this thread but it's now requiring much more thought on what to choose for a monitor!

While I'm sure I'd be happy with a £420 40" MU6400, for a couple of hundred more you can get a 49" LG with Dolby Vision or a little bit more for a 10 bit colour Samsung. Or go cheaper with highly recommended Hisense ones that have direct lit.

At this point, might as well get a 55" to use solely on my sofa to replace my 50" plasma. Then decide what to do with it when I finally upgrade to a 65" OLED. Lots to think about!

The MU6400 technically is 10bit, I paid 489 for my 49' MU6400

**EDIT oh it states it isn't 10bit but it's registered as 10bit ?? 8bit + FRC ?

I was going off the descriptions on Richer Sounds. Their specs for TV's either say 8 bit, 10 bit (8 bit + FRC) or 10 bit.

Just been for a look at them in a local Curry's and when I told him my intended use, was told there's a delay of up to 2 seconds between typing and it appearing on screen using a tv. I'm no expert but I'm not believing that! No such problems using an 11 year old plasma via HDMI.

When using a PC on the screen? I've got no such delay at all, never had any issues, the TV is pretty quick with its own software too.

Also they should have for the MU6400 8bit + FRC, I'm confused how everywhere says it's not a 10bit yet it's clear 8bit + FRC, which from reading isn't true 10 bit but sort of emulated.

Display specifications website shows it as being 8bit + FRC and I trust what they say.

After having spent a ridiculous amount of time on Google & YouTube, narrowed it down to the 40” MU6400 for £420 or the 49” LG 49SJ810V for £699 (seems to be a bit better spec), just not sure if 49” is too big as it will be right in front of me. Delaying buying a pc until I decide on this!

Before you decide, I've neglected to tell you about backlight bleed from the edge lighting, It doesn't bother me but I understand some people it really riles up but apparently it's a bit of a lottery if you get it or not

Thanks. I was only looking at IPS monitors anyway, so I assume the amount of backlight bleed would be roughly the same anyway?

Anyone using the slightly cheaper Samsung 6120 ?
The specs looks pretty similar to the 6400 and is currently 349 in places ...... seems a bit too good to be true for a decent 40 inch tv ?

I don't think it is too good to be true based on the fact that I got my 6400 for £349 (unfortunately the price has gone up over the past 6-8 weeks).

I've been waiting for the new Philips 32" 4K monitor (328P6VU) to be released but these Samsungs seem like a bargain in comparison. Are they due for replacement soon?

Was all hyped about this thread then realised that my 390x only supports 1.2HDMI. I understand I can get an adapter that'll support 2.0 but why? Why it doesn't just support 2.0 as standard, its not even an old card...
