Minor Upgrade...

I'm needing to get a new PSU and a motherboard and hoping to make it cheap as possible, the PSU needs to be modular as well, current specs:

Mobo: Gigabyte P67A-UD3
CPU: i5-2500k @ 4.2
16 GB Ram
GPU: Asus HD 7950

CPU is being cooled by a Corsair H60.

If anyone can recommend me a nice monitor that's rather cheap also that would be good.

Hey man, solid build you got there

Both PSUs are made by seasonic so you won't have to worry about reliability. Neither are fully modular as the 24pin cable can't be removed but I can't see why it would need to be removed anyway (but just in case:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-001-EA&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=2463)

As for the motherboard, I'll just recommend my one as it does the job, is reliable and is super easy to overclock on (you'll need to re-do that OC obviously): http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-555-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261

I thought the Z77-D3H was the best budget board to get,

I much prefer asus' BIOS and the overall aesthetic of the board but yeah, there's not much in it tbh.

I recently got a Z77X-D3H, very impressed with it. For the money it's really very nice. Looks awesome too!

Better customer support, the motherboard section has a number of moans about various experiences.

The dualBIOS is a live saver.

Wrong!! The XFX is indeed built by Seasonic but the Corsair is made by CWT. They are leagues apart and the XFX is a far better psu. The Corsair is built down to a budget and has cheap caps inside. I wish people would check before they post rubbish when advising people to part with money. Seasonic only build 3 of Corsairs psu's now, the HX650, AX760 and AX860 and i expect these will be replaced by another OEM at the next refresh. The vast majority are built bt CWT and the rest made by Flextronics or Chicony Power Technology. See here for who makes psu's for each company.

Components + design of internals of PSU matter. Your voltage rails aren't perfect flat lines; the capacitors have a big say in how flat you can get your DC voltages. Source: I'm originally an electrical/electronic engineer.

And as for Seasonic PSU's; I've got one and it's been by far the most reliable PSU I've had and would more than happily recommend to anyone.

Mate, it's just a tiny detail, it's a good, cheap PSU, it's reliable and I would recommend it. You are most definitely over-thinking this. Besides, it was someone on the forums that lead me to believe that all Corsair PSUs are made by Seasonic so I don't see why I'm being penalised so hard. Either way, I learnt something new and I hope you did too.

It's not a tiny detail at all. A little bit of homework would have shown that your statement was incorrect. People come on here asking for advice on what to spend their hard earned cash on. Giving poor information is not good advice. Personally i would never recommend a Corsair CX series psu to anyone.

As for learning something new. I am always learning things on here but what i do make sure of is any information that i provide is correct.
