Mirrors edge physx vid

It seems people are not getting what physics engines are doing now. Or what they are capable of if they had a bit more processing power.

Shame really. A missed oppertunity IMHO. To me, player interactivity with the enviroment is a big part of making the game immersive. And sometimes it more important than cut scenes, scripted sequences or even voice acting.

Physics engines arnt just about rag-dolls, cloth or even leaves. They are key to making the simulated world more beliveable. And greater physics processing power is required. Where that comes from, GPU/PPU/CPU doesnt matter. Its how its implemented. ATM, physics is being misused and therefore misrepresented in gaming. All those HL2 vids of rag-doll effects has bent peoples perspective on physics in games.

Absolutely! Remember HL2, and the simple physics puzzles and sequences in that! Excellent! We need it as a working part of the game...

Does nVidia not have exclusivity on Physx?

I'm sure if they do then ATi will create an alternative.

Hopefully that wouldn't lead to developers having to choose which one to opt for...

They're welcome to license Physx should they choose to do so.

The problem is ATI don't exist anymore, AMD bought them out and as such ATI cards are in fact AMD cards. AMD being primarily a CPU manufacturer would prefer a CPU based solution, though I think you'll have to wait a few years for a CPU based solution to rival Physx.

You have not got a clue that because AMD primarily a CPU manufacturer that they would not want the best for the their GFX division as well because if that was the case the ATI oh..wait the AMD Radeon HD 4870 would not of side swiped a NV a primarily GFX manufacturer when it first hit the scene.

There would be no AMD Radeon HD 3870X2/4870X2 if AMD was not dedicated.
AMD bought ATI because they wanted a gfx division & you don't put money up like that which they could barely afford if they were not committed to it.

AMD would not have Fusion planed if they where not committed that was in the works even before the ATI buyout.

ATI is registered division/trademarked product so it does exit and would be best to stop with this hair splitting nonsense.
