Mismatching tyres?

FYI - On my E46 I had Potenza RE050As on the front and Potenza S001 on the rear for some time and I could notice the difference quite a lot. It is not a case of bad handling though, no extra understeer, it was more the fact the car was more twitchy and skittish over bumps.

BMW told me the E46 was very susceptible to this issue, but I don't know about the E39.

If the E46 is the extreme I would say it is bearable, so if the E39 is only affected by a minimal amount then you should be able to live with it with no problems.

Is there no E39 forums you could ask about to get a more informed opinion?

If you had super hard plastic ditch finders at one end and R888's at the other it might be a different story :p

I did that once, Nankangs on the back, F1's on the front. Christ that made for an interesting drive when wet. :p

Considering you've got a 335i now.. I would just put anything on the back so long as it's decent. It's not as if you drive it particularly hard anyway is it? Thought the 335i would be taking all the abuse!

Except the 335i is for sale.

Do keep up dear. :p

I do hope Fox is still selling the 335i, otherwise I will look silly.

I think it's moderately well known that he isn't happy with his new car or it isn't as spectacular for the money as he thought it was going to be.

We'll never know, as he won't talk about awkward subjects which affect himself, which he'd happily pull other people apart on if they were in his shoes.

Plus in any case, if he was sacking off the E39 you know he'd never stick average tyres on it given his stance on cars for sale with budget tyres on.

Best option, wait until they actually NEED changing (at 3mm) then see if they've made your size available.

Else you're going to either dump cash on older inferior rubber or upset the balance.

Now you can spend the intervening months pouring over the tyre reviews in case you missed something.

Happy to help :)

About time, been ducking it long enough.

Very surprising though and a bit out of character I must say.

I understand. I always thought the 3 series would be a step down for Fox.
Sure, it's got a sublime engine but it'll never be as good as a 5.

That, and the E9x M Sports are ten a penny.

I answered as and when I was asked. No ducking at all.

Or was I supposed to make a new thread to announce it?

Been asked in several threads over the last few weeks and replied in each.

Well considering you didn't make the obligatory "new car thread" in the first place, I suppose not.

Its not what what several people have told me in any case.

Well lets hope your next purchase is more what you are after and that you are more certain before you press the buy button.

Don't you mean "Sorry, I jumped on you (yet again) but actually I was completely wrong in my assumption." ? It's fine to be wrong you know, you don't have to try and justify it.

You do seem rather obsessed with Fox sometimes.
