Misogyny

It's the only way :D

Gets Burka.

There are other worrying statements in that newspiece, and I'm struggling to turn up any differing examples on other news outlets. This stuck out:

Again, if I ask a woman out I am doing so because she is a woman and I like the look of her and would like to get to know her better. I wouldn't do that with a man, so even if she accepts then it's still a crime because that attitude differs between sexes.

Doesn't seem to have been well thought out.

No because it's not simply because they are a woman. Unless you ask out every woman you see.

Is now a hate crime in Nottinghamshire.

Personally, I welcome the move.

I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up on and posted here already to be honest. I'm even going to post your favourite media outlet's take on it. Behold the Daily Mail.

Come on OcUK, don't let me down, please.

The first person Notts Plod lifts for this will be in receipt of a fat bag of taxpayer's cash a week later after a wrongful arrest settlement.

LOL

I predict the future, me.

"MAN ARRESTED FOR OFFERING TO BUY WOMAN DRINK. WOMAN SAYS UNSOLICITED ADVANCES ARE SEXIST"

Wolf whistling. Seriously. Some people need to get a life, wolf whistling is positive attention. Isn't that what feminazis want?

No, and the fact that you use the term "feminazi" and then think Wolf whistling is positive attention that women should be grateful for, tells me all I need to know about you.

I've corrected the title of the thread.

On the subject, some of the wording is worrying. A woman shouldn't have to worry about walking down the street due to catcalling and whistling and so on. It just shouldn't be a factor. That said, 'unwanted text messages' and unwanted sexual advances and ‘unwanted or uninvited physical or verbal contact or engagement’ is all very woolly.

If an unwanted advance is 'can I buy you a drink?' or 'would you like to go for a coffee?' is that now a crime if the target declines the offer?

The bold part needs tightening up. But from a male perspective this is a case of hearing and seeing no evil, hence not being recognised as an issue. For instance, how many lovely penis pictures have you received in the last 24 hours from Facebook stalkers? What about a creep filming a documentary about your behind... during a regular shop? When does vulgarity turn into intimidation, harassment and then assault? What wolf-whistling rate would you find acceptable, and what do you think it is for an average target? You have to start somewhere.

I mean just sort the comments in descending rating order on that article and have a gander -- the archetypal 'I'm not an X but...' is prevalent. I'm not sure victim blaming will let guys wiggle out of this one for much longer. Theresa will see to that. :p

Wolf whistling can make many people feel very uncomfortable.

I don't see the point in Police involvement even if it is just for safeguarding. Why have a costly investigation if there will be no action against the suspect?

The term misogyny is very much over used compared to its meaning. The term is demeaned by its usage.

It means hatred of women. It's used to mean 'a little sexist' or even just socially awkward behaviour.

If what passes for misogyny is misogyny, we need a different word to account for this kind of stuff: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritzl_case

When women say they get unwanted advances what they really mean is that the guy doing the advances is just not attractive enough for them

yes, you'd think considering the budget cuts and reduction in staff that the police have got enough to worry about without adding wolf whistling builders to the list of potential perps......... This country has gone bat**** crazy
