Is now a hate crime in Nottinghamshire.

Personally, I welcome the move.

I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up on and posted here already to be honest. I'm even going to post your favourite media outlet's take on it. Behold the Daily Mail.

I've corrected the title of the thread.

On the subject, some of the wording is worrying. A woman shouldn't have to worry about walking down the street due to catcalling and whistling and so on. It just shouldn't be a factor. That said, 'unwanted text messages' and unwanted sexual advances and ‘unwanted or uninvited physical or verbal contact or engagement’ is all very woolly.

If an unwanted advance is 'can I buy you a drink?' or 'would you like to go for a coffee?' is that now a crime if the target declines the offer?

Seems like a joke and open to abuse.

As above, what if the Tumblrina gets approached in a bar and they don't like it, can they call the police? I guess the devil is in the detail.

In 200+ years time, this will all come full circle and men will the sex facing all this from women, and then the cycle will start again.

Sounds very open ended and hard to pin down beyond what the current laws already allow. The obvious glaring point and without going down all the redpill rubbish is why not misandry as well? assuming because it happens less but I don't think frequency should impact on a law like this.

Its on the beeb as well btw.

There are other worrying statements in that newspiece, and I'm struggling to turn up any differing examples on other news outlets. This stuck out:

Police, who have been working with Nottingham Women’s Centre on the subject, added that the crime includes ‘behaviour targeted towards a woman by men simply because they are a woman’.

Again, if I ask a woman out I am doing so because she is a woman and I like the look of her and would like to get to know her better. I wouldn't do that with a man, so even if she accepts then it's still a crime because that attitude differs between sexes.

Doesn't seem to have been well thought out.

I hate everyone. Male, female, black, brown, white and yellow. Am I going to jail? Soon prisons and secure mental units will be the only sane places left. I hope I have offended at least one person with this post too, I just don't care any more.

History books, you should read one occasionally. The same at arguments were put forward before marital rape or rape without witnesses were criminalised.

Good news, misogyny certainly is a form of hatred based on prejudice and it should be punished accordingly.

I've been propositioned by women in the street, not a boast but highlighting that women can be just as 'bad' as men when it comes to trying to get laid. I've also been approached by men too, I've never felt like I needed to report any of it to the police.

I think the problem arises when people are overly aggressive in their advances and don't take no for an answer. If this outlaws people simply 'chatting up' others who they find attractive, then this is a sad day for British society. Perhaps this is linked to the rise in dating applications, meaning that such outward methods of attracting a mate are judged to be more unacceptable than in my day before such apps existed.
