I have re installed Windows 7, using AHCI in the BIOS.

For some reason my optical drives do not show up in Windows.

If I reboot the PC then the drives are listed in the BIOS etc.

There we go.

ive had this problem on my laptop since updating to windows 7.

If there was a cd in the drive when i boot up in tends to work fine, if not it has problems.

Ive not had much time to have a look into it as ive not been writing any data recently but im going to try find out whats going on :P

Grrrrrrr

This is getting really frustrating now!!

I can only see the optical drives nm Windows if i set the Gigabyte controller to AHCI mode.

I know there is nothing wrong physically with with the drives as I installed Windows from DVD.

Everything is plugged in the same as it was before I reinstalled Windows, even then the BIOS setting were exactly the same.

The only difference is I installed Windows with the Intel SATA controlled in AHCI mode rather than IDE.

hmm dad had a problem like this a few months ago.

I cant remember the exact thing I did.

But google the problem, got a link for microsoft, which scanned for a problem and then fixed it.

Sorry I cant help more.

(we even bought a new burner as I thought it was the old burner that was bust)
