Im going about reinstalling win 7 64hp on a 120gb ocz vertex 2e, after installation is complete, the drive capacity in windows is only listed at 79.9gb. On the install options there are two partitions mentioned.

100mb system reserved
107gb

How come its less after installation, this is the first time ive reinstalled the os to this drive, previously i just installed after having been using win xp.

No, no windows old folder, did have that when i first changed from xp to win 7.

12gb ram in a 3x4 dimm config.

Have you looked in Disk Management to see if the drive is totally available?

Your PAGE file will then take 18GB I believe but you say your partition for windows is only 107GB?

Remember a 120GB drive is 120GB to the manufacturer but only around 111GB to a computer.

Yep, no unallocated space showing, shows as 107.3gb. Drive properties shows, 31.9gb used, 75.1gb free.

Are you wondering why you have used 30 GB on a clean install?

1.. Page files is probably 12GB - 18GB
2.. Hibernation file will we 12GB

Lower your page file size and disable hibernation.

EDIT : 10% of drive is allocated to Recycle Bin as well.

Hibernation was enabled, now disabled. What would you reccomend for page file size. Speaking to a nephew who works in it, he also mentioned disabling the recycle bin. Drive capacity showing as 88gb. Page file on auto.

Just let Windows do its thing. I have the same size drive and I'm able to install all my programs (not games) and use it normally without worrying about running out of space. I never store stuff on the desktop or in My Documents, though I did that before switching to SSD as I keep all my data on secondary drives so I'm free to format my boot drive if necessary. I have hibernation disabled but I thought that was the default. Leave the Recycle Bin on but just empty is regularly - it's a nice safety net.
