You'd probably need up on a lift to have a good look round the front to make sure nothing was bent.

yes, it's only done 43k miles, the standard steering wheel should be fine, it also had a different Gear Knob.... different radio and a Sun roof.

the previous owner pimped up the interior, after all, it is very plain.... unfortunately it looks naff

i only work 3 days a week, i can easily do 4 and sometimes i only do 2 :cool:........... i usually do weekends only with an extra day thrown in.

The standard suspension on an evo 5 is made by KYB.

As for the steering wheel and gear knob. The steering wheel on an evo 4, 5 or 6 (and 7 & 8 RS) is enormous. I quite like it but lots don't. The gear knob is made of leather and they really don't last long if you've got sweaty palms or lots of rings.

the coilovers are going to be tricky, i've not read a good review yet on any of them, except the Ohlins........Bilstein are too expensive.

Apart from the screaming obvious such as EML, AYC light etc, from the top of my head:

  • Check inside the boot under the carpet, it should not be painted. If it is, it's most likely had a rear ender.
  • Check the AYC fluid.
  • Ignition on, steering lock off, engine off, keep pressing the accelerator while turning the wheel left and right, you should hear the AYC pump kick in. If not, regardless of what the bulb might indicate, the AYC needs a solenoid at least replacing. £600+.
  • Check all panel gaps, lines along the shoulders, door gaps, bonnet gaps. Everything. Then check again. More Evo's have been crashed and put back on the road than people realise.
  • 30mph in 5th/6th (depending on gearbox) and floor it, it should not slip. If it does, clutch/flywwheel. £800.
  • If the belts have been done, make sure the balance shaft belt has been changed as well.
  • Get it up in the air and check thoroughly, especially if the car has been near a seaside town. There are posts on MLR that show you what to look for. I'd be very weary if it's coated in fresh underseal. Check the garage that did the job and ask what it was like before. Whether they lie or not is another matter...
  • Get it inspected by a reputable garage that know about Evo's.

rear ender :eek::eek: the boot interior under the carpet was a very thin coat of yellow overspray, barely covering the undercoat....... there a photo of it in his photo album

as for the rest ...........:eek:
 
i've sent the seller an email about that Pump, this should be interesting;)

he's an Evo nut if he cant answer this to my satisfaction it's over

it's bound to be on rubbish roads, the roads in the New Forest are pot holed to hell and back again

maybe he's put the right Coilovers on!! average and semi soft... not sure

rubbish, i emailed him about my concerns with the car as mentioned here, tyres, shockers etc......... i've only just put an offer in 9.5 to 10k

in fact, i told him yesterday that i had the money, so he's lieing
 
now i'm really cross............... it's the 550hp EVO that i couldn't afford and he's seen this and used this as an excuse...

i had no intentions of collecting the Evo today, even if i brought it...........NEXT TUESDAY, i told him this yesterday, because i'm working the next 3 days

it'll go now, lots of interest from others, save me any further grief somebody please buy it...... probably sold already, i give up that's it
 
i bet it'll go when i'm at work and i hope it does, because it's a foolish thing to do............... but i just cant let go, i keep thinking...buy it, dont buy it, buy it, dont buy it

no i'm enjoying the feedback on the forum, i'm addicted to this thread and the other forum too! i need to get to work tomorrow and have a laugh with the guys, i need to get back to reality.

i know myself too well, i know exactly what's going on.... it's deffo not a fantasy, because if so i would've brought it straight away, i'm addicted to being online and researching this that and the other and then coming back here, it's nice and warm here and cold outside.

if i dont buy this car, it'll be a lucky escape !!!
