Check for corrosion, they like to rot underneath, not sure on the newer ones though, but I have a 54 mk2 that is looking a bit nasty! I'm told its a Ford thing.
Also check for any sneaky leaks, the power steering fluid pipes are prone to wearing on them I'm told, cost me 200 odd getting them replaced.
They are slow off the line, 99bhp really isn't enough for these, they are quite lumpy! They feel sluggish but do get going and are nice to drive, just don't expect to win any races
