Mk2 Focus zetec 1.6 things to look for.

Check for corrosion, they like to rot underneath, not sure on the newer ones though, but I have a 54 mk2 that is looking a bit nasty! I'm told its a Ford thing.

Also check for any sneaky leaks, the power steering fluid pipes are prone to wearing on them I'm told, cost me 200 odd getting them replaced.

They are slow off the line, 99bhp really isn't enough for these, they are quite lumpy! They feel sluggish but do get going and are nice to drive, just don't expect to win any races :p

Have been looking around with the advice here.

Nothing has really came up that I've really liked the look of.

This Mazda 3 caught my eye though, looks a bit better with this Tamura trim level. Doesn't have heated windscreen but does have climate control. I think the interior is nicer than the focus' I've looked at.

Spent today gutting the Astra and giving it a good clean to try and get the most moneys. WBAC were down to £1500ish last time I checked.

Scott baillie are questionable at best, personally I would avoid. The only one of those dealers around tollcross I would even consider buying from is Bank motors, but given you're only looking to spend a couple of grand don't bother paying a trader premium

Aw no!

I drove past last night on route to Dalmuir and the bumpers all seemed to look OK under the big lights. Sometimes plastic bumpers can look strange sometimes.
MOT history seems to check out the mileage and it's not had crazy rust issues.

The price seems about right compared to the similar ones at that mileage.

I don't really trust many of the smaller dealers, I stay next to Robertson in Hamilton(formerly ccs) and I wouldn't go near them based on what people say. That capital motors with the focus in Edinburgh seem iffy, place next to ek MOT just reeks of dodgy too.

I'm struggling to shift the car privately, reached £2k on eBay but I'd set a higher reserve. Would rather trade it to a dealer then sell someone it for the gearbox to go bang.

Well I went and looked.

Bumpers I think are slightly different in different lights. A newer mazda 3 across the road was the same to be fair. Arden blue corsa next to the car I was looking at matched perfectly as do my bumpers and bodywork.

Wheels were corroded a lot, chip/slight crease that had rust on it above the windscreen. Rear quarter seemed too dull/orange peel/flat so possible damage before and the arial was bent! Wasn't too impressed, even when it's only £3k.

Wandered around and most cars had problems with them. A near £7k Mondeo with a massive gouge in the wing? Wtf.

Maybe I'm too picky for what the budget allows.

It's perfectly possible, but you just need to be realistic about what is a "real" issue.

I would walk away from any rust or obvious terrible repairs but you can't go dismissing cars worth a couple of grand for the odd scratch / mark or because the wheels need a £250 refurb etc.

If it's mechanically right but has the odd cosmetic issue I wouldn't be fussed, whereas if it's cosmetically perfect but rattling banging and knocking away I wouldn't touch it.

Just about balance really

Makes complete sense. I'll keep an eye out and have a look at more.

The wheels I can see past as even my boss has 3 sets of wheels on what was a brand new x5. The quarter and the ding in the roof were the main put off.

Sticking with the devil I know.

Getting tyres fitted on Thursday at 8.15am
.

Ordering delphi bottom arms, drop links and rear trailing arm bushes to tighten the car up.

Gearbox can be fixed using upgraded bearings and end case for £650.
