MM changes to profiteering rules and new Collectibles sub-forum

I'm not saying this should be done, but what do you think would happen if you just allowed people to set any price? Do you not think this will largely also police itself?
To a degree, but there always exist supply:demand forces that will open up avenues for scalpers/traders to take advantage of the section. If you don't care about that, then yeah absolutely no reason why you can't just do that and drop a load of administrative faff, but I think we do care about that.

Ah I see the mod team have finally got round to deciding to sell their collectibles :D
I've already said I'm not selling my Lorelai Gilmore Funko-pop ;)

The profiteering change seems inevitable to enable the collectibles section to work, makes sense and I'm sure even if there are unknown unknowns down the road that crop up (they always do) they can be dealt with as and when :)
You're absolutely right, we couldn't have done the latter without the former. I'm sure there will be some teething issues and we'll just deal with them.

So does this mean retro games and consoles can be sold at somewhere around current market price, rather than being limited to purchase price?

I am happy to sell some lego as the average market going rate!

I know people should be sensible but I think some guidance should be taken when taking an average. Is it average of past 5 sales or average in the past 6 months? Or whichever is longer? Since sometimes, lets say you held onto something for years and all of the sudden it is now popular and you want to flog it. The average of past 12 months might differ from last 3 months.

In my head (when we were discussing the rules change internally), I took the average just to be current price e.g. on eBay excluding outliers (e.g. not the too cheap probably will get scammed sale, and not the most expensive has been listed for months and not sold sale).

Oh cool, I would never assumed them to be gadgets and tech.
They are specifically listed in the forum description - "Wearable tech, home tech, mobile phone accessories, remote control cars, vouchers & gift cards etc. STRICTLY NO TRADERS"

I await EOL/discountinued GPUs being listed for 1p on OcUK to troll the MM sellers

Edit: Oh wait, that wouldn't work. Still, the thought was hilarious for about 5 seconds while I typed that out.

just to be crystal clear; the MM is run by the forums and is not a part of the OcUK shop; so any decision lies with the mods and admins.

But if OcUK were to list a GPU at 1p, and other places are listed for £500, then discretion would be used. We'd also not expect you to buy for 1p, then sell for £500! :D
