MM changes to profiteering rules and new Collectibles sub-forum

A nice idea not to allow prices above the current retail price :).

I sell models for tabletop games (40K, Mordheim, Epic etc) so again more welcome news.

just to be crystal clear; the MM is run by the forums and is not a part of the OcUK shop; so any decision lies with the mods and admins.

But if OcUK were to list a GPU at 1p, and other places are listed for £500, then discretion would be used. We'd also not expect you to buy for 1p, then sell for £500! :D
Could you link to the shop please? Would love to check that out

Apologies of already asked but:-

I see someone asked about RC cars, and board games are included. I have a large collection of RC cars and board games (I also have old consoles which I think were rejected when I offered them for sale in the MM previously)

It's just that some items in the collection I have will have gone up in value since I bought them. A rare board game I paid say £50 could now be £100. An RC car I paid maybe £500 could be well over £1000. I couldn't confirm the original cost of the consoles I have but I'm sure I paid less for the Neo Geo than the average asking price on ebay now.

Honestly not trying to be difficult, genuine question as I've been considering selling some of my collection.

That just falls under this clause i'd have thought:

You are not allowed to sell any item at a price that is higher than the current retail value.
Where items are discontinued or no longer available at retailers, then the retail price should be deemed to be the average price from appropriate online second hand retailer e.g. Ebay, CEX or similar"

If everyone else on eBay etc. is selling your board game for £100, crack on and list it for £100.

Radio controlled cars were already allowed in the gadgets/tech sub-forum.

Board games are specifically listed as being allowed in the collectibles sub-forum.

This is the whole point of the rule change.

If the board game you paid £50 for is now selling on eBay, etc for £100 then you're fine to advertise it here at that price. It doesn't matter that it originally may have cost £3.99 from Woolies in 1972.

Your question is answered in my first post!

But that's not the retail price though. People listing second hand stuff on ebay is considered the retail price?

Providing it's discontinued, yes.

The thing is with collections, is that you can't really price them;

I'd suggest you look at what they sell for on Ebay and list them for similar, so you get a fair price for what its valued at.

Great to see the scope of the MM growing, there is def a market for these additions
A year ago, various people accused us of wanting to close the MM and said that we were trying to kill it. We said then that we had no intention of doing that and I think this demonstrates it perfectly.

Here’s an example, there were others.
This is exactly what I am thinking, give it another year and we will see an even tighter rule change. I mean they have already cut out a large portion of people that can use it already.

I just hope the new sub-forum gets used.

,,,this Hokeykokey2000 graphics card, is it good?
Imagine a 3dfx voodoo 2 cross-bred with an ATI Rage Pro and you’re getting close :D

A bit of a side question, regarding the normal section (hardware) not being set above "retail" prices. Assuming the part is an older item, RX580 8GB for example, so no longer has a price in the OCUK store and on ebay is roughly £100, but I have made aftermarket modifications to it; a larger aftermarket heatsink, Noctua Fans strapped on after deshrouding, etc. Are we allowed to set a price that is higher than that £100?

In this instance I would apply common sense - so no more than the ebay cost of the card and a fair cost for the fans/heatsink.

Would the collectables include things like gaming related merch / books etc. For example, I have a Fallout 3 Vault Dwellers Survival guide and also a Pip-Boy which I will be looking to sell. These items would seem to fit in well to the collectables section?

Yup, they'd be fine in there
