Mmm Old Skool

Make sure you get one of these for driving with the top down.

I kid.. not my cup of tea but I'm sure it's great fun.

Always liked these, had both a s1 turbo and and a 1.6i cabriolet some 15 years ago. The mk3 hardly ever rusted as the sills and chassis rails were twice as thick and had much better seam sealant to the standard XR31i. Welcome to the world of wet seats and steamy windows.

Why the hatred for this car chaps?

Of the ERST made the S1s are by far the coolest. I even had one on my "maybes" when buying another Impreza.

Convertible isn't my COT at all but S1s are pretty cars.

no hatred

its a great classic Ford

We're just poking fun at stereotypes (would be rude not to given his location :D)

It just has that tacky 80's look to it.
And you usually see some proper scummer driving one around, wondering whether the person sat next to them is a care worker in a tracksuit or what. Not saying all drivers of them are like the but it just gives them a bad reputation.

Thats the reason I don't like it, but each to their own and all that

No you don't.

back in the 90s they did

Cars like this have moved on now. They are cars usually only owned by classic ford enthusaists

Eejiits in tracksuits wont put up with the rust and other issues associated with classic fords and would much rather have something more modern like a Saxo now-a-days.

I still do see a couple rattling around swindon every now and then with what I can only describe as retards driving.
Never seen a desirable character driving one, but thats luck of the draw maybe?

You'd rather see one of these than a Focus RS?

your dealing with beardy classic car enthusiasts here.

Logic is not compatible with this past time. You're wasting your time arguing ;)

That is old skool cool.

Nice to see one looking half decent still, when I'm in Essex I see so many terrible examples, not that there are many left that haven't been wrapped around a tree.

Agree with you there mate. Although the new Focus RS's are undoubtedly a cracking driving machine, there's just no "want" factor about them.

Soulless... perhaps thats the word for it.

I also share your opinion on this. Perhaps one day they'll be more classic, though I don't think they'll ever reach the same level as say a Sierra XR4.

due to the fact there is a lot of young people on here i dont think you can really appreciate these cars unless you was in the era of these stunning cars.

i for one love the old xr and rs model's of the 80's and although this is not a dig at the young people im sure you would have a new rs to a old rs.

or in mr fox mind...a bmw.

Mirror, mirror on the floor, whose is the shiniest sump of them all.

Though it was an XR3i at 1st, so was somewhat less disappointed to see this has a turbo.

I'm not young and I think the FWD RS and XR models were awful! Give me a proper rear wheel drive Escort anyday. ;)

However it's still nice to see examples of these on the road.
