MMO's - PC's saving?

^ This.

Not only that, but it has been done to death for YEARS. The last ten years at least. Yet year after year amazing, immersive and rewarding PC games are released.

STFU about it now TBH.

We're discussing why MMO games are popular on PC's and not consoles and we've had some interesting inputs. Its not about PC gaming is dying, it just appeals to a different crowd.

Consoles are so popular, even though a lot of people will see them as casual gamers, there are some hardcore console gamers. But given there are so many consoles and players now, surely a good quality MMO would succeed? Or would it?

I think for the time being they will remain relatively exclusive for PC gamers.

Also nobody is denying amazing games are released for PC's, but their main exclusives remain MMO's.

That's just such a rediculously sweeping generalisation.
Every single person I know that owns a console is >25. Two are in their 50's, two are in their 30's.

way to quote half a paragraph... you didn't get to the bit about the exceptions... Do you even know any <25's... ask them all i bet one of them has a console.

I'm fairly sure that if you found some statistics on console ownership a majority of owners would fall into the <21 demographic. It is a generalisation as i mentioned, and yes its a sweeping statement, also mentioned.

I'm not a PC elitist at all, i own consoles... im merely pointing out that i believe, in my own opinion, that consoles dont match upto the capabilities of the PC when it comes to higher level MMO's

So we've established that some under 25's own consoles then...and some over 25's own consoles...

Really? Have you found any of these? Why make such a ridiculous statement with no kind of figures to back it up? My grandfather plays PC games, does that mean the pc gaming audience is all over 80?

PC gaming is just fine thank you very much.

E drama.

+1 we're quite spiffy thanks :)
MMO's do play a fairly large role in keeping PC's a great gaming platform, buts i don't feel that its the be all and end all

yes your completely right on all levels, i retract all previous statements and pray for forgiveness.

It's near impossible to get a breakdown of console/pc use and age. But we do know the average gamer games on both the pc AND console, and his/her age is 35. People aged 40 spend the most on games, and there's close enough to a 50/50 split between female and male online gamers. The largest age demographic is teens, making up 40%.

So why have console developers resisted the MMO route, because theres plenty of examples of console first then pc, but not long ago it was the other way round.

I'd imagine that it's something to do with the lack of a keyboard.

Personally, I couldn't play Warcraft on a pad with max 10 buttons, even with macro's.

Warcraft is the most popular MMO, because it's fairly simple and open, imagine a more complicated take on an MMO with only 10 buttons.

Consoles are good fun, but the lack of a mouse and keyboard imo, limits them.

I disagree, MMO may be killing other games, know a lot of mates who used to be hardcore RTS players like 4+ hrs a day, then they got wow and instead of playing 5 good games, they play 1 MMO . The MMO's are drawing far too much time away from other games and other genres suffer by this. I can see why they are fun, I've briefly ( for 2 weeks) tried various MMO's, but they are ruining PC gaming for any others. I never started with mmo's because I'm 99% sure I'd become an addict too, I'm very easily addicted to games if I like em and MMO's would simply eat up too much time compared to other types of games.

Then again, some people only buy a pc to play games like WoW, and then try other games too...

Ever since I got introduced to pc gaming at the age of 16-17, I've never looked back since then and I'm 30 now. I can't see myself playing fps or complicated mmo's with a controller.

Apart from MMO's and the odd RTS, the pc is just another platform to make games for.
In terms of priority to the publishers, probably way behind Xbox 360 and PS3, but maybe ahead of DS ;)

PC gamers are playing console games more than ever before, and i cannot see it changing tbh.
