Mobile NFC payments?

Will android Marshmallow allow wireless payments?

Have to say being able to do tap to pay would be great - I've left my wallet at home in the past and being able to buy something with my phone would be fantastic!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Android was ready for wireless payments since Kitkat. Just that there was no system to take advantage of it in the UK...

EDIT: Actually checking Google Wallet's history US had NFC payments on Android since May 2011!

It's frustrating enough that most shops still don't seem to support contactless payment with the actual cards. I don't think I've been in a single supermarket that's had it yet.

Locally around Swindon there's a Morrisons that has it (built last year). I wondered if they were just moving to NFC as their terminals were replaced due to wear and tear etc...

NFC Payments on Android is coming in November. Barclays just announced their app will support it in November in the UK. Expect all major players to follow suit.

I bank with Barclays, so this is good. Just need Amex to do it too and I can leave the wallet at home :D

Do any apps exist on Android for mobile NFC payments? Just watched Gadget Man and saw the Visa PayWave app which doesn't seem to exist past closed testing on SIM cards.

The technology is here and I regularly pay for things using both my personal and business contactless cards, but I wish I could do it from my phone!

i had nfc on my previous sony phone. clueless as to what it was used for.

Cosimo posted it earlier and beaten you to it ;). I'm actually more tempted by Barclay's smart band as it'll be easier to get out but I can see a security issue with it too...

No of course it's been available for ages, but I thought that Marshmallow would allow use in the UK? Maybe I misunderstood/read the article.

It is frustrating, as Android has been way ahead of the game, but I guess were less emphatic about getting it rolled out?

I use NFC a lot for things like NFC tag, transferring data, connecting to things. It's such a diverse technology.

I've used the EE "Cash-on-Tap" app on my phone on and off for a while. Works anywhere that takes contactless payment. But to be honest, tapping my HSBC debit card is faster as there's no lag while the phone talks to the app/network, even on 4G.

Does confuse shop staff when you pull out a phone and tell them you're paying with that though. Can't count the number of times they've just stood there staring looking gormless and clueless about whether or not to hand over the card reader.

Mind you, having your loyalty card barcode on a phone and scanning that still confuses some supermarket staff, even when the till has a scanner for that very purpose.
