Mobile phones, anyone else who doesn't need one?

I have a pay as you go Nokia 6.1 on Tesco Mobile (triple credit) but really only use it for online banking, 2FA and the odd text. To show how little I use it I stuck a tenner on it at Christmas and still have £2.78 remaining.

Great, arguing to become a cave man to prove the point. Textbook ttaskmasker GD content 9/10 wouldn't read again
Slave to drugs = Bad.
Slave to alcohol = Bad.
Slave to cigarettes = Bad.
Slave to just about anything = Bad.... yet being a slave to your mobile phone, to the point where your life is impossible without one is somehow something you're proud of?

It should be optional, not the only way to live your life.
Given how often people break their phones, lose signal or run out of battery, you'd think they'd have learned their caveman lessons....!

I don't have a landline, so need one to call people. But I don't have a contract and I think my phone is 6 years old now :D

It's weird how quite a lot of people working in IT don't have that much interest in phones. It can make phone calls, get emails and see the internet sometimes. That's good enough.

I run my business from anywhere, so whether it's phone or computer it's kind of needed most of the time. I do a lot more now to actually have days where I leave it all and don't touch it but at the same time, it's important for what I do. I'm less and less bothered about personal social media stuff. I don't really care about it, but for business I need to

I have a mobile but it's mainly used to anchor whatsapp, as an alarm clock, mp3 player and occassionally a handy camera.

Rarely does it get used for phone calls, and even rarer for texts :)

lol at the cross post you made in the watch thread.

"Who needs a watch, don't you just check your phone?"

Make your mind up @Reality|Bites !!!

No way :)

Anyway, we've been trying to talk my 68 year old brother in law to have a simple Nokia, twice he has gone out and twice his wife has called on the family and we're driving around everywhere trying to locate him. It's like talking to somebody from the middle ages.
Three weeks ago he went to Tesco with original pictures that he'd taken on a normal roll film camera a few weeks earlier. He asked for copies of the photos and they charged him £120 so he could send to a friend. I quickly showed him my phone taking pictures and then an APP where I can upload my pictures and get 50 proper ones sent back for £1. He sat there in a daze.
A bit later he asked where a shop was so I got up Google Maps and showed him, again the look on his face was one of shock.

By not having a mobile phone you are opting out of society. That's fine, you are free to do so. Be aware you are taking a lot of convenience out of your life. If you are not effectively using a smartphone now, think of the convenience you can add to your life! No one is forcing you to install the social media's; but as others have stated, simple things like Google Maps, flashlight etc. are worth it.

I don't use mine as much as I used to. I can tell because I now get reports telling me my usage as decreased a % every week. :)

I'm finding it easier now to put it down and not keep picking it up as much. I have all alerts now turned off and no notifications appear. Back to how it was before phones vibrated. :)

I thought all payg sims require topping up every 30 days now?

I have over 20 accounts on my 2FA app so without the phone I'd be locked out of all things internet.

My banking is also done via mobile apps, I pay for everything with Google Pay. My Trove Wallet never leaves the house any more lol, that was money well spent...

Also, how else am I supposed to slide into yo momma's DMs???

You don't need any of that for a mobile phone.
