Looking for some help here...

Mobile speed cameras... anyone got any experience? Think I was just clocked by one slightly speeding (36 maybe in a 30)... But... on the website where they have to say where they are going to be, they are on a different road to the one stated... any ideas??

So it says Its on the a541... which it isnt... http://www.gosafe.org/en/cameras/Search.aspx?Search=mold

Its on Gwernaffield road.

I always thought they had to tell you where the camera was going to be?

They tell you by having camera signs for x distance before it.

That and the big obvious van parked at the side of the road/ on a flyover :p

If you were doing an indicated 36 you may well be fine tbh, just need to wait and see

They usually advertise the locations in the local paper as well, I doubt there is a legal obligation to be 100% correct though. Would still try it on if you don't fancy the points and fine, just expect to get your pants pulled down if it goes against you.

...on the subject of speed camera's, does anyone know the significance of the background colour on a speed camera sign? (besides the speed limit before anyone says it :p)

Noticed it the other day and was curious...

Page 126 of this tells you:

Even reading that I'm a bit confused but I think my interpretation is that you use the blue sign as a reminder once you've seen a yellow sign. The sign itself is a combination of a speed limit sign and a camera warning sign. In a 30mph zone you're not permitted to have repeat speed limit signs but you can have a repeat speed camera sign so they use the blue background to differentiate it would seem -or something like that.

They're not called Mobile Speed Cameras for nothing.

They're a bunch of ****s though.

I think one got me on Thursday doing around 70 in a 60, I might have braked in time but I'm not sure.

If I do get done I hope I can get the speed awareness course as points would suck balls!

Why is it their fault that you ignore the limit?

As for the OP, it's simple:

1) They do not need to tell you where the cameras are.
2) The do not need to put up warning signs.

Really, it's that easy. Most people seem stuck back when police forces could claim half the fine money back (but only for specific road safety uses) if they put up clear signs, painted the cameras etc. Now they don't get any money back, no matter what, and so the agreement was torn up. Ten years or so ago. If they warn you in any way it's nice, but there is absolutely no obligation to do so. Oh, and the 10%+2 "rule" (which never any such thing) bit the dust at about the same time, before anyone quotes that.

I'm certain that I didn't say this?

No, but you called them a "bunch of.........." which might indicate that you were annoyed at them for getting caught speeding.

Instead, don't break the limit, and the camera vans suddenly cease to matter :)

How are the ***** for doing their job and prosecuting people for illegal behaviour?

Fine - an exceptional case. But if you're not breaking the limit, then (assuming the justice system is perfect ;)) even if you do get falsely caught, you have nothing to worry about....!
I was being rather facetious, I admit :p Perhaps I'm overly paranoid but I've heard of too many similar cases to be entirely confident in the enforcement methods, and indeed the justice system.

To the people who are protecting the use of mobile cameras, fair enough, it's illegal if you speed and I can't deny that.

However, sometimes, the limits are ridiculous or the camera's are hidden or poorly signed. You're gonna feel ****** off when you get caught regardless.

Not particularly aimed at timbob, but I always wonder on these threads how many of the posters who state this point of view actually stick to the limit at all times.
