Mobile + Washing Machine = Weep

Just double checking...

If I get a phone that is unlocked and supports UMTS 2100 (or HDSPA 2100) and put in the Three sim, the phone will configure Three access points and work just like that? or is there something I am missing/need to do?

Got my eye on the Samsung B5310 which has all the features she wants but is locked to Vodaphone hence my above question

no one answered :(

I'm going to press on and believe that the answer is indeed a yes

Sorry to hear that at first I thought you were operating your washing machine with your mobile (don't ask). I'm not familiar with 3 but you may need to get the settings from 3.

Lost my Nokia 6230i while back, when we were looking for it, we heard a loud clonking noise in the washing machine. Thought it had had it anyway so left it.

Turned out the phone was in my jeans pocket, smelt lovely and was clean as a whistle.
Took it to pieces, left in airing cupboard, still going strong now (dads using it), and that was 2 years ago.

True story.

Last update to finalize this thread for any followers before I let it slide...

Ok it seems that if you get a non 'Three' supplied, unlocked phone and use a 'Three' pay as u go sim in it then....
a: if it is a 2g only phone then you are outta luck son
b: if it is a 3g phone (UMTS/HSDPA 2100) it will work on 'Three' but they may block you from using it at some point.
The reason being is that 'Three' dont have their own 2g network which they pay Orange to use theirs - so if they notice that you use 2g services a lot then they will block you as you are costing 'Three' money to use the 2g services, but if you mostly use their 3g services then you may go unnoticed and not have any issues with 'Three' ever - although your mileage may vary.

If you use a non 'Three' supplied, unlocked phone with a 'Three' contract sim then you are outta luck again, you have to use a 'Three' supplied phone with their contract sim unless you want hours of grief with their customer services who won't support this setup.

As far as I can make out, the above is correct if anyone was interested to know :)

So as much as my wife really wanted the Samsung B5310 as it appears perfect for her, she has a 'Three' contract sim so settled for the Samsung s5600 which she picked up last night from the 'Three' store near her

As an aside, you could flog your dead mobile to one of the recycling websites out there.

Try this: http://mobilevaluer.com/

One outfit will give you £31 apparently.

Hey thanks man! I didn't even consider doing this as it has water damage and the screen is slightly melted - will read up on this if it is still acceptable ta :)

EDIT: Seems Mazuma state this regarding what constitutes a non working mobile...

Non-Working
Each mobile phone should:

• Include its battery (you can keep memory card, charger, etc) TICK

• Be intact - not crushed or snapped in half TICK

Non-Working examples:
Broken / bleeding LCD (screen) TICK
No power up TICK
Speaker / Mic faults TICK
Broken aerial, etc. TICK and TICK

so seems I may just gain £31 or so that I didn't even consider.....thanks again frakker :)
