so the above link the the mobo that i currently have and i am looking for a GPU that will give me excellent performance and run any game on top settings. I am not sure what of the 2 i linked bellow would be best and if they would work defiantly for the mobo.

Thanks a lot all.

So i original bought the 7950 and it turns out its not compatible with the mobo called OC and they said that the best thing to do is buy an Nvidia because some of the 7 serious dont work with the mobo for an unknown reason

Any suggestions for Nvidia?

Gigabyte X79-UP4 Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard

and error with a Gigabyte video card, that's news to me and i bet Gigabyte as well, but if OC told you, it must be true.

but no idea with NV sorry, over priced so never follow what they do now days, good cards if you have the money mind you, sorry can't help :(

just googled for errors as well,

"Gigabyte X79-UP4 Intel X79 DDR3 Motherboard errors with 7950 video cards?" none found no matter what i put in, will look on Gigabyte support pages and see there

again no errors found,

tbh, think something isn't right here either, but i can't go pointing fingers, need someone else to look into it, as for me it's wrong advice unless something else in the system is not compatible that i don't know about, doesn't sound right, but not saying either that advice giving is wrong either

but either of your first choices will be fine, i'm guessing

yeah well i thought the same becuase i cant find that anywhere but yeah on the phone he said that there is an issue with that card and gpu.. And told me to send back and would be best to buy an Nvidia.

got the card just need to wait for it to come now, hopefully this works now. Even tho there is nothing on google about the problem he seemed really determined that was the problem so i just hope he was right.

i'm sure it was just either a faulty card, or other issue, but either way at least the new one will work hopefully, fingers crossed for you, let us know how you get on..
good luck

what card didn't work with that board? you might simply need a bios update or a beta bios for it to work correctly,i solved similar issue with x79 ud3 and a titan card yesterday on tweaktown forum,he just needed the latest beta bios and card worked fine

If you go to the Gigabyte website you will get an updated bios from there. Certainly worth a try.

Can you update the bios without having access to it, as in no display.

beta bios's wont be on gigabytes site

heres the latest beta bios for the x79 up4

http://www.mediafire.com/?8j3clrhotzgvx9c f3t beta

to update bios you need a usb stick formatted to fat32,extract the files from the above and put them on the memory stick, bootup pc with stick plugged in and press end at gigabyte splash screen to enter qflash, then follow onscreen guide and update the bios

remember, flashing the bios will rset any oc/bios settings so make a note of them beforehand or take screenshots with usb stick installed and press f12 for each bios page

for a blind flash with no gpu installed you could try pressing end then enter and enter again with just the memory stick and bios attached

EDIT: also try with dvi/vga/hdmi cables if your monitor supports them, chances are it will display a picture on one/all of those three ports

you could wait till your 7970 arrives then update the bios and try your msi card, keep whatever one works or is best for you

or try n borrow a gpu to test/flash bios with

i got a 680 GTX after calling support they said Nvidia would be the best bet for the mobo because it seems to have problems with some of the 7 series also saw the same sort of things on other forums so just went all out and got the GTX 680 and sending back the 7 series
