Mock The Week

Once you realise that Frankie is just saying things for the sake of being controversial, it's not really that funny any more, he needs to come up with something a bit more original in my opinion, he's a bit of a one trick pony.

This is what annoys me about it. They've obviously thought of what they are going to say for the stand-up bit, but they play along like it's spontaneous, with two people stepping forward at the same time.

You used the word yet don't seem to understand it. Are people not allowed to come up with ideas at the same time?

Was Frankie drunk on last nights show, he was shouting more than ever? Still funny tho, that one about loose women lol.The guy that sits next to him also funny, so was the tall guy. That women was awful bless her, and I hate that irritating Russell Howard. The one on far right right?

Anyone else think Nevermind the Buzzcocks is probably the funniest thing on tv? (or last season was?)
Nevermind the Buzzcocks has gone down a bad route. Rather than being more banterous, it has started to revolve around Simon simply being harsh towards his guests. I don't mind it when done in small doses and with all parties joining in with the fun, but I don't like it when it just decends into bullying. Anybody can do that.

He was advocating that this part of the show was entirely staged.

I cant say I agree. While he is very controversial and likes to jump at the chance when he can, he's far more funny when he's speaking about the current panel subject. He's so quick and can twist things instantly.

Frankie Boyle has just err... stopped being funny for me. Andy Parsons never was... Dara, Hugh and Russell are alright though.

HIGNFY is much better, although not Deyton era quality.

Buzzcocks was ruined by that prat Amstell. Bring back Mark Lamarr.

I think you have summed up all that is good and bad about Frankie. He does make some very amusing comments, but he needs something to springboard off. Left by himself he doesn't seem to have any flow and it soon becomes apparent he needs some sort of conversation or story provided for him to be truly funny.

Andy Parsons is truly awful. He makes me laugh 5 times a series at the most. Russell had me in tears at the "turned him off" line in the last episode. :D

Agreed, can't stand the man (well, his comedy at least). Everything he says seems really forced, as if he's desperate for people to laugh. He comes across as really insecure, which is made worse as he's not funny.

To be honest, Peep Show's the funniest thing on TV. In terms of this kind of show, HIGNFY is the only one which can make me laugh consistently. MTW and Buzzcocks are funny in parts, but both are really hit and miss.

EDIT: A conversation between Ross Noble and Russell Howard would be something to behold!

To be honest the points don't REALLY matter anyways.

The show is all just for a good laugh. The U.S version of Whose Line Is It Anyway? pretty much did the same thing regarding the points, although the original UK version was more serious about it.

Speaking of which, how I would love to see that show come back. I mean after all, Mock The Week is by the same creators.

Erm no it wasn't, I think they were just as irrelevant to the 'winner' though Clive Anderson had far more variety in his scoring. UK Whose Line was so much better than US :)

Agreed about David Mitchell, he comes up with some great stuff.
I dont get Frankie, he seems to just be crass for the sake of it.

I still like HIGNFY but mainly for the guests these days. Merton and Hislop have become so very tired on it. Merton just isn't that funny anymore and hates it when anyone else funnier than him appears on the show. You can tell when this happens because he becomes more and more surreal, thinking that mind**** surrealism is funnier than genuine wit. Hislop just isn't that funny and it has got to the stage that the show is mainly a vehicle for his political views. Give me a revamped HIGNFY with Frank Skinner instead of Paul Merton, Dave Mitchell instead of Ian Hislop, and Stewart Lee as permanent Host. Frank Skinner did sit in for Merton one week and he was chuffing excellant, even moresoe as apparently he had like half a days notice, and since then he's made a bit of a TV comeback generally. More Frank Skinner please.

I agree with pretty much all of what you said, though David Mitchell can be a bit arrogant himself.

In any event you need someone with proper wit and charm who can come up with something better than a Merton style "Gorrilla milking a wasp" type wit-substitute comment. Dave Mitchell has shown time and time again his brain is wired for instant on-demand comedy, I've not noticed him being arrogant tbh. Sean Lock would do instead but maybe is too similar to Frank Skinner, DM would be an ideal contrast. It would basicly be the same format i.e. posh funny bloke and working class funny bloke, but actually funny to begin with.

Anyway, QI is by far the funniest quiz type comedy show on TV and has been for some time. Quality guests virtually every time, largely freestyle comedy, and I can't get enough of Rich Hall.
