MOD over spent

My pet hate is that the RAF are still paying core meal prices upfront, getting gucci steaks and what not, lovely food, whereas the navy & army are fed utter ****.

Only the SNCO & seperate Officers mess get that, the rest of us get fed the same as the other sevices. Their food is better quality and cooked by the better chefs on case (SNCO's mess is usually the best).

and to top it all off certain RAF mess' have subsidised alchohol

Thats them SNCO's and Officers again - ********! (unless I get me 3rd in which case - great!)

They'll spit there dummys out if we ever make it to an equal tri-service.

The Armys way with everyone eating together is best I think. However it's best to keep the drinking mess'es seperate!

This is my own opinion here but the Overspend the precurement types only look at each financial year for the vast majority of little items so if something costs £50 and lasts 3years before you replace it and another only costs £25 but gets replaced every year then they'll buy the £25 one which means inferior build quality for almost everything we get and over 3years costs more. Iraq/Afghan forced them to purchase emergency items with no cost limit so we've finally got stuff which now lasts longer with better build quality (snugpaks, boots, armour etc).

The big items (hips/subs/aircraft etc) they know will never be bought if they tell the accountants the real price so the initial figures can get fudged to get the project started and hopefully it'll be too far gone to stop it once the true price is known so it won't be cancelled.

Crap isn't it!

Of course not, but there comes a point where the British people need to have their own tax money spent on themselves. We already look after the 'poor' people within the UK as it is and we can barely afford that.
Stop reading the daily mail.

Tbh, I don't support our troops in the current climate, I don't dislike them but they're not doing anything productive if you ask me, killing a few civillians and a few nutters every so often, then they are getting killed for being somewhere they didn't need to be. Not to mention being americas little bitchboy when we went to iraq.

And I don't see whats wrong with helping those in desperate need. Should we take that bottle of water away from a dying child because you want a few more tanks?

So it isn't a problem you have with the RAF there fella, it's a problem you have with the Navy because all services should provide decent food and not crud. If it really bothers you just transfer :) Complaining about money spent on such things is insignifcant anyway as that's just pennies again.

Liek you pointed out there the real waste in money is on civvy private contracts and crap that is just not needed. The MOD has this retarded belief that we need to design and build our own new projects e.g. the Destroyers, the A400, jet pods, Typhoon. Private companies must be rubbing their hands when they get a military contract, it's like writing them a blank cheque. We should do like the Aussies do; let other nations blow loads of money developing and trialling new kit then decide which kit you want yourself and buy it off the shelf.

Yeah, like all that money going to help India and it's starving millions. Good to see their space missions are looking on course though

I have been working for the mod over last five years and also served and my pet hate is the state off the huts the troops have to stay in ( transit camps) nissian huts very basic and old. you see prisoners staying better accommodation. How can we afford to help India but not but are troops first?? Look after your own first then help others.

Also there are some good private companys out there that work in Partnership with DTE that do save the mod ££££

Of course it's going to over-spend, we're fighting two wars and have had to buy massive amount of kit for the Army, over 1000 new armoured vehicles etc etc

Not surprising that something will have to be sacrificed for it all....

Sensationalist news stories...

Average Muslim?

You mean lunatic.

No, I mean average Muslim. I don't believe the insurgents and Al Qaeda members are lunatics. I believe they are ordinary people, just like you and me. They simply possess different motivations.

Where do you think they're recruiting from? The streets of Baghdad, where average Muslims are found.

So it's the average Muslims doing it not the extremists now then?

I guess DD was right all along then.

PS - Nix, you really do need to check your figures. ;)

It was early morning and I've had a little bit of a fuzzy head. I'm not sure what part you mean exactly (I grabbed them off a quick glance at CIA - it was the point I was more interested in making), but feel free to correct them, I won't be offended.

The £8 would in reality probably be more like £12.5 if we use 40m instead of 60m for those actually within working age.

EDIT:

Ah wait, currency conversion. I'm missing a zero aren't I? That and it's pound not pence. I've edited the other post accordingly. I blame the fuzzy head. :p
