modding a car

Why would you bother? 40k opens up a LOT of doors, with cars to suit pretty much any taste. I can't see this ending up as anything other than a huge steaming turd to be honest. I'd rather spend the 5k you might spend modding it on ticking a few more boxes on the options list or getting a better car in the first place

personally if i had the time and money, and was that way inclined, I'd do a lot of research, buy a basic car that I like and do most/a lot of the extras myself/pay someone else to do them how i want them exactly.

Goes back to my point about what happens to people as the earnings potential increases.

Currently, if I had £40k, I'd rush out and buy a used E92 M3, woohoo!

I bet by the time I reach the point in my life where I *can* routinely buy £40k cars I'll do nothing of the sort..

possibly, I can't say, since I'm only 18. although my taste in cars has changed a lot in the last few years alone. but there's always going to be a few people who have the money and inclination to do up brand new expensive cars

Without wanting to be condascending, most people who are 18 can't afford a 40k car. Most people who can afford a 40k car have grown out of the modding phase

but there (statistically at the very least) must be people that do, and if the OP is claiming to fall into that category why don't we just accept it?

wow, it's quite unbelievable how a simple question asking how "a" car could be lowered and modded more to MY liking by adding a simple, understated bodykit could have warranted snide remarks around my age, my social status, my income etc

......

the self-righteousness of some people here, and I won't name any names, is beyond belief.

Hai thar! Welcome to Motors. ******g hilarious isn't it :D

Ant

Personally I think people have being quite polite so far :D, especially in a thread so full of fail.
To the OP - each to their own etc but buying that pile of turd and to then start making it even worse buy nailing stick on crap to a brand new £40k motor is quite frankly ridiculous which ever way you look at it.
I dont for one minute think you are seriously considering it and if you are, go look in the mirror and say to yourself "I am about to purchase a brand new £40k car that I dont like the look of and then im gonna ruin it even more making it worth considerably less than when I bought it". Repeat this until it sinks in.
Then get yourself on pistonheads and actually look at what you can get for £40k.

Haven't read through the whole thread, but has anyone mentioned about car insurance?

It's a good idea to check that your current insurance company will cover the modifications. If so, you will probably have to pay extra to cover the modifications.

It's a good idea to check, before you go ahead and purchase anything, as it could be wasted if you can't put any of it on the car.

Good luck with the modifications. I've just bought some for my first ever time of modifying a car (18" alloys and lowering springs for my mk5 golf).

Random ramblings

For the love of God, stop killing this thread. If the OP wants to buy a car and modded it, whats the problem. It's not your car nor your money. Not everyone wants a BMW, Audi etc.

But on topic you will most likely need to import the bodykit in either from US or Japan. Then take it to Bodyshop to get it fitted and sprayed.

I personally prefer the smooth look, with a nice set of Volk rims.

I love the way that people claim that there isn't a market for modifying something like a G37, and yet searching "G37 BODY KIT" reveals 170,000 hits, with the first hit being a company that offers 5 different complete kits to be ordered right now.

Regardless of what people "usually" do when they are in the position to buy something like a G37, there is quite obviously a market for modifying them or exist these products wouldn't exist...

Is there not many different versions of the G37?

Is there any kit out for the new one?

No doubt Top Secret has done one, that won't look half bad.
